Keeping RFT's (Heresy?)

I have run my Bridgeston RFT's for 27.5K on my 318d Msport and now they are due for replacement.

To get rid of the stupid wear patterns i saw on the front i have been modulating the tyre pressures from high to very high. Ride quality of course is shocking.

However, i need to keep RFT's on the car as i have been told by the dealer it needs them when (if) it goes back (PCP type purchase).

I dont need ultimate grip from a tyre but i do need it to ride well, cope with standing water and last a while. Is this too much to ask from any of the other RFT's?

Are there any alternatives that are noticably better than the Bridgestone? Any comments/advice would be appreciated.

I replaced my original Bridgestone runflats with a set of Michelin PS2 ZP (runflats). Liked what I read about them : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168648

Ride is noticeably better, with less tramlining than the Bridgestones. Wet weather feel is much improved - the Bridgestones were like bakelite.

Not cheap the Michelins, though.

Local plod have switched the bimmers to Michelins for the above reasons.

I was forced to replace my OEM Bridgestone RFT's with Michelins and couldn't be happier

Do specific model types eg E90/91/92 or SE/M-sport get specific brands of tyre from the factory? Or is it a lucky dip?

I was driving home from work and my tire blew on the side walls. I found out there was a nail in it. I was traveling at 70 mph when it occurred. I was safely able to pull over to the side of the road.

Why not try Kumho KU31 Ecsta Sports?

£107 for the rears and £91.90 for the fronts.

The Michelins are much better than the Bridgestones.

The ride in my 335i on Michelin PS2 runflats is more forgiving that in my 330i on non-runflat Vredesteins

PS2 runflats are definitely better.

But they are still compromised.

i know bridgestones are crap, am thinking of michelins or pirelli, have you noticed any difference in the inner tyre wear yet

Like the others have said, PS2s are really good for runflats. I went from on SE on 17" conti runflats to an MSport on 18" PS2s and the ride was noticeably better. The 'nail' picture above is the upside of keeping runflats.

How much to change from Bridgstone rft to Michelins.

I drive my wifes E92 rarely because the ride is awful ,it has 4 k miles on it so i should be able to sell the tyres to off set some of the cost.

19" 225 style alloys .

Or do i keep my eye out for some 225s with Michelin and just buy a spare set

Cheap enough to try and see! Else the Pirelli's are under £600 from Micheldever. If i decide to keep the car then i shall fit Michelin

Local tyre shop report similar dodgy wear patterns on inside edge of Plods Bimmers (Michelins) although not so bad.

Ask any 'EXPERIENCED' tyre shop how many blowouts (big ones) they know of.
Its VERY rare on modern tyres and they dont fall off the rims either

As an aside, Ford commercials are moving over to Kuhmo too, as are others.
Economy of scale means it a multi-million saving for them now the quality is up there with the best.

That's what the guy from Event Tyres said as he was fitting mine. Most of the people that you see with a flat tyre have NOT had a full blowout.

Put some non-rft's on and enjoy the ride.

Keep an eye out for part-worn rft's (ebay, forums etc) and if you need to put rft's back on at the time of return, do it. If not required to do so, sell them.

I sold my 335d back to a dealer without rft's.

An Update:

After 29948 miles on my original Bridgestone RFT's i have fitted Michelin non-RFT Pilot Sport 2.

First impressions are good with a much less crashy ride around town but with a slight increase in tyre noise i think. Also the secondary ride feels different too.

Ascension > i like your rims, what are they called? looking for new rims, was looking at mv3 or 4's. hope they didnt get ruined on your car mate.

has anyone tried putting RFT's on the rear and non-RFT's on the fronts? (is this a bad idea?)
