Question Getting External Audio From GPS Device

I have a Garmin Nuvi 660(cant say enough positive things about it) and using my aux input jack and output jack on the nuvi to play both my music(on SD Card in Nuvi) and hear GPS commands....I would like to eliminate the unsightly wiring that goes from the Nuvi on the dash to the Aux Jack in the arm rest.Even routing it neatly as possible still is not clean. Any suggestions??

Also any innovative suggestions on a hardwire kit or DIY wiring...Havnt seen many that are truly clean...Again rather hardwire the Nuvi then have the DC power cord showing.....Thanks in advance for all your invaluable technical help...

I have the same GPS device and would be interested in a similar solution for the audio connection. Does the audio sound good? My MP3 player amplifies the signal itself because it has merely a headphone out jack instead of an audio out jack. That means that the MP3 player is amplifing the signal, instead of letting the car stereo handle it - which results in poorer quality sound. Not bad, just not great. Especially compared to a MP3s burned onto a CD.

With regard to the DC power wire aspect, I read a good DIY post awhile back for just such a solution. It routed a power wire back to the windshield/dash union, over to the passenger side, and underneath the dash to the fuse box near (or in?) the glove box. Didn't seem too tough - search for radar detector or GPS and hardwire and you should find it.

Check out the radar detector hardwire threads (like this one)

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...e+box+hardwire

Instead of going down the A pillar into the glove box, just go across the top of the dash and around and down. Run the audio alongside the power, but keep it going through the glove box, tuck it into the center console and pull it into the compartment. Shouldn't be too big a deal.

Im not an audiophile so the sound is acceptable. Im certain as you state it isnt as pure sound as it could be but nevertheless a nice setup with the nuvi as i no longer need the ipod setup..Using a 2gb SD card and holds 450 songs.....

I will look into the post for hardwire for power i would still like an alternative way to plug into the vehicle aux jack other than to the center console (or in the back of the center console whicle the X3 has)....The distance is too long and it looks unclean however tucked/routed....
Thanks much.....Can always count on great suggestions on the post...

You can tap in to the Aux jack by removing the rear console panel and splicing into the wire. you'll need a switch if you plan on using both aux devices.
Look for the Navandtv2go diy. The instructions are on there.

Run both wires in different directions so you reduce noise problems

I have the nuvi center dashboard above the center vents using high bond velcro to secure it(works well) so the mount isnt at the windshield where the previous posts instructions e.g. for the V1 for routing the wires are for.....

Sure, but the rest of the radar detector instructions still hold. You just need to route your cables across the dash along the bottom edge of the windshield until you reach the A-pillar. Continue down to the fuse box.

(look at the instructions for wiring to the fuse box, not to the roof panel)

There would be a wire 2 actually as i use the external audio cable as well running from center mid dash to the windshield across to the "a" pillar and down into the glove box.......

Should be no biggie; I haven't needed to try it on the E92 yet, but I had a GPS antenna mounted in the center of the dash up against the windshield on my E34 and there was plenty of room to nestle wires down below the dash against the firewall. Just don't use metal tools.
