Mine is just stuck on with double sided tape now.

I looked into the tow hook idea like seem on a lot of the US cars but our square plates are quite a bit bigger due to having 2 lines of text, whereas they only have 1 row.
Depends on how many digits your plate is, it would have to be pretty short to get something that looks good that will still be legal.

I dont really want a numberplate oon the front at all haha, love the plateless look and with hopfully doinga few shows in the futurn i need a way of removing.

I understand what your saying about the plates in the usa there are alot smaller.

Might see if i can fabricate somthing for our square plates in teh toeing eye but so it sitts further down so not to bloch the light.

Any other suggestions? Do they make magnetic plates??

double sided tape works! just need something to clean the residue off after you peel the tape

I had a smoothed front end on my MK5 Golf GTi, I removed the bumper bought some really strong magnets and glued them in place on the back of the bumper where I wanted the plate to go, I then got magnets on the plate itself and covered them with some soft material, then just stuck it on and off as and when I wanted to, drove plateless for months and months on end, finally got pulled and said I'd been at a show and apologised, stuck it on and was on my way!

Found a guide if it's any help! This is for Alu plates but I did this with my standard plastic plate and skipped the steps of the alu strips behind the plate

Tools and materials needed.

Alu numberplate from Dubmeister. (Or Normal)
Alu inserts found in Hobby shop. (Not Required)
adhesive backed foam sheet.
adhesive backed felt.
10 magnets.
and the appropriate glue.* :happy2:

The magnets i have used are too strong really. I used the correct glue but because of there power, they had pulled off the plate a couple of times. Also after a time a mark had started to appear on the front of the plate,* the plates are alu and very thin, not much thicker than a can.* :chicken:. So this Mk 2 version needed beefing up.

I Started off by backing the plate with these alu strips i found, hopefully this should give the plate a bit more solidity and stop the dark marks coming through the front.

Once the alu was on, i* then backed it with some thin foam. I used this last time and it is pretty good at resisting the weather.

Once this was on it was time for the 5 magnets that go on the back of the plate.*

Next is the added extra, i found some adhesive backed felt and put this over the magnets, hopefully this should cure the magnets pulling off the plate, and also help protect the mask as well.

That is the main bit done really, the only thing left is to stick the other 5 magnets onto the back of the mask.
the best way i found to do this and align the plate properly, was to hold the plate where i want it to sit then just let the magnets pull out of my hand onto* the back of the mask. they will automatically sit in the correct place, then just get it perfectly aligned from the front.
Then all i needed to do was to take the magnets off the back one by one glue and return them.

Finally put some weather proof tape over them.

Using magnets sticking to magnets means that it lines up perfectly every time as soon as you let go.*

And that is it done.* :happy2:

Illegal.

Reg 6 Of the Law states it must be on the vehicle not in it.

Its a crap law that spoils the look of cars haha.

I'm in the process of making a bracket that is similar to the yanks toeing eye one but for our sized square plates, might not looks the best but as bettyo2 said ill probably drive around plate less till i get pulled and just apologies and fit it.

I would do the magnet approach but knowing my luck i would be going to work on motorway one day and the plate fly off and hit my windscreen of something ridiculous like that haha.

You certainly do! Worth a shot, always depends on the police in your area really!

I know loads of people on these forums like to stay fully legal and safe etc but we all like the look of a smooth car

For example I keep 2 plates in the back of my car, one spaced legally and one space illegally, my plate is S18 ETY but I space it S1 8ETY for my name (Si Betty) I got pulled 10 times in 1 week and changed it back after £30 fine each time, and since that haven't been pulled for having no plate! All depends on locally bobbies mate!

This is my plan. I have a kit sitting in the garage. An electric retractable plate.,

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xke8k-Ni4YE&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dxke8k-Ni4YE

The actual kit I have,

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bAbRbqZ0I6s&feature=related

The angle adjustable so it will tilt back more. I'll only fit it if it fits neatly in the same location as the bm, but with my shirt numb plate.

I won't however connect to ignition. It comes with a remote control. It will be out at all times unless for a cheeky picture or at a show.

Edit. Bit sure how to embed YouTube vid so if interested you'll have to copy and paste.

Come into a problem with he toeing eye method.
The thread on the eye seems to be a very weird and wonderful thread dreamed up by the German wizards at BMW with no Google find on any bolt what so ever,

looks like magnets for me haha.
