I picked up my 2008 coupe this morning, they replaced the fuel pump and 2 injectors the service guy assured me that this was a brand new pump they put in and not a remanufactured one.
I'm not sure if it's my imagination but it seems that the exhaust note has changed and it's also a little louder (not a bad thing). This is my second pump, I have around 12,700 on the car. It also seem much more responsive, the lag has definately gone. |

Had mine is for 3 recalls last week...no letter just calls from my dealer.
-New software (emmissions?) -6 injectors inspected; 3 replaced -NO NEW HPFP! Car still has intermittent long cranks but not throwing any codes. I did notice two things... 1. The exhaust note seems louder 2. My Idrive Service requirements screen has a new category "State inspection" which I believe had to do with N54 equipped cars failing emissions which mine is now due for.

By the way...she still runs great on the original HPFP and I have had zero real issues with this car.

Just joined the not so exclusive club. Received the letter took the car in, had no issues before. The SA gave me the company line "emissions" I told the fool that I've been following this since joining this informative group. Just silence! At the end of the 1st day the SA called and said they were waiting on software (lol). When i picked up the car on the 2nd afternoon:
1) Program Control Units (including CAS) 2) Remove scan and refit/replace injectors - 4 replaced, 6 decoupling units replaced, 3 gasket rings replaced. 3) Replace HPFP - defect code 00.13.97.01.00 PN 446 4) Clear fault memory (none showing before) 5) Checked LP sensor and replaced HDP pump - no part number 6) Annual low milage oil change I too seem to think the exhaust note got louder??? I hope like all of you, they just didn't "fix" a car that ran great.

Got mine back today and I dodged a bullet. I still had the original software so they ran the update and did not do anything else. I'm one of the lucky ones that have had no problems (16,000 miles) so I was real glad they didn't try and replace anything. It does seem a little louder to me but maybe I'm saying that because I read it in about three straight posts. I really can't tell any difference. I need to put my SS Turbo Tuner back on tonight because I can really tell a difference when it is not hooked up. Did get a windsheild washer issue fixed, it wouldn't squirt much liquid before and they cleaned the firm off the screen in the tank and it works great now.

I'm curious if there are any post recall HPFP failures? I have not seen any HPFP failure threads in quite some time

I'm sure after all this they had several very competent people working on this. I don't think bmw would or ever directly design a pump, but would outsource this stuff to the likenesses of bosch.

HPFP part #: 13-51-7-616-170 Pump : 135019 I also saw in the note that says:
Looks like the battery reset wiped all of my presets.

Sounds like paranoid nonsense until you think about what happened with 29.2 and how that may have been the first attempt to deal with the fuel pump problem. There was a second S/A on the grassy knoll.

Yet when I took it into the dealer, they said they could not do anything about it because there were no codes. That's not their fault; I don't expect them to work on the car if they're not getting reimbursed by BMW, but c'mon.... This went on for a month until finally one day it successfully went into limp mode. At that point, I drove straight to the dealer and they took care of it. The software threshold has definitely been changed. I have no doubt. |

Whatever it is, I hope this thing will go for 100k or so .. For the records, mine used to backfire easily when the engine is cold and when I shift it to gear #1 or #2 and let go the accelerator. This does not happen anymore. Also, based on this wiki article, it seems like one of the major causes of backfiring is due to insufficient fuel pressure; thus, causing a super lean fuel/air mixture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back-fire

Nothing in this entire process makes sense. You may have received the software another time you took the car in and not even realized it. They tried to put new software on mine well over a year ago and I said no thanks.

If we didn't scan the car, I'd never knew the car already threw codes on the fuel pump... Quote:
i actually scheduled the appointment originally for some other small annoyance unrelated to HPFP. But the first thing my SA asked me after I got out of my car was: are you here for the recall?

I didn't notice any change in idling after having the recall done on mine. The only things they did on mine was replace the pump and reprogram the engine control unit. No injectors were replaced. It does, however, seem like the MPG average has improved a little.
