They obviously get an OEM item and try and made a mould around the OEM item.

They then try and make theirs from the mould from the OEM.

There is obviously a margin of error each time and more so when they use cheaper materials.

As stated in my previous post, I bought my replica aero lip from SSSD as I wasn't able to source a geniune one at the time. The one dealer I did find it at was quoting me £300 without VAT,fitting kit, painting or fitting and I wasn't about to spend £500 on getting a bit of plastic put on the front of my car.

I was led to believe that the SSSD one was just as good\identical to the OEM. It isn't. From a normal viewing distance of a metre or two it looks spot on but if you get up close and personal you can see that it is out by a millimetre or two in a few areas so it depends how much of a perfectionist you are but it cost me less than £200 all in (I fitted it myself).

If I'd been able to get an OEM one for £300 fitted I would have jumped at it though.

Apologise for the delayed response guys, been busy with work, I went to BMW on Saturday, but it was closed – I managed to talk to the a BMW rep in the service dept. that was there and asked him what he thought in regards to the pricing I was quoted over the phone! His advice was to come in when parts dept. was open and make sure I get in it writing... So in short I will have to go in again over the weekend at 9am as they closed after 12.30 am working all this week and can’t make it during the week. Sorry chaps! But will try my best to get this sorted and hopefully a positive outcome.

Right guys some sad news! got the email back from BMW telling me that the price I was quoted over the phone was wrong! (no surprise there)

They mailed me back with this quote:

The breakdown is as follows.

Front Spoiler £268.01
Glue £28.27
Labour and Spraying £216.99

These are the correct prices

Regards
Martin Coleman

However am still working on it to get it cheaper – the fella who I rang is on holiday and some other guy is filling in for him has decided that it’s going to cost extra £217!!! Am waiting for the guy I rang to come back as he seemed like he could sort us out with a deal!

Over £200 to spray the item is taking the p to say the least. Its an easy spray job when its off the car and not a lot of paint would be needed.

Straight £100 at BMW Bodyshop to spray, took it in myself and got a quote excellent colour match and finnish. Fitted myself very easy and I used 3M tape instead of the Betalink adhesive, have used glue in the past and it is a pig and permanent. Spoiler has been on a number of years now with no problem as most weight is on the underside bolts. There are grooves in the rear of the spoiler for where the tape sits, just use a little more tape to increase the length of the backing tape to outside the area to bond so that you have an end to pull on whilst pressing into place.

Hey guys,

No I didn't end up getting it in the end, was thinking of biting the bullet and getting it done this summer...however just had a failed Nox sensor go on me so had to cough up £340 for that from BMW!!!

Still interested in the lip, but looking to move up to a 335d next year and would rather put it on that if i don't get the msport.
