What Fluids/Lube to use?

I want to change out the fluids in my 07 328xi to better/synthetic.
Any recommendations and how much do I need to buy?

1. Front Differential
2. Rear Differential
3. Manual Transmission
4 Transfer Case.

Redline? Amsoil? Other?

look at pg. 4.

As for brands, I swear by Motul. After the AR oil cooler, motul 10w40, and mocool I have had zero heat issues. I plan on using Motul for the rest when I flush them.

TC uses special BMW fluid, about 1/4 quart...however I run D4 ATF and no problems.....PITA to change though, ended up taking off the harness that holds the TC to the subframe...I think someone mentioned fabricating a special allen wrenth to get at the fill hole.

Here is what I have found:

Transfer Case-- can only use BMW's oil, no substitute

6 speed Manual Trans-- 3.2 pints, can use RedLine D6 ATF, $10.99/qt at JEGS
(I know ATF in a manual?, but that is what RedLine says. Manuals like thin oil)

Front Diff-- 1.3 pints, can use RedLine 75W90 GL-5 Gear oil, $12.99/qt at JEGS
Rear Diff-- 2.6 pints, can use RedLine 75W90 GL-5 Gear oil

Front and rear diff (from factory) use a BMW-specific 75W150 oil, though the Redlines, Royal Purple get decent reviews on here. I figured why risk it, and went with the BMW-juice that doesn't cost any more, and it's a bit heavier weight. Transfer case is a special fluid that is expensive, but you only need .6L or so. Funky to fill. Haven't done that one yet, but I do have a post here somewhere describing how to get to the fill-plug.
Enjoy!

Interesting you say that. My front had very little in it as well. Front diff seemed to be more leaky than anything else under the car, though...

Here's BavAuto's maintenance sheets by model http://blog.bavauto.com/9906/bavarian-ottos-ultimate-maintenance-schedules/. It's a bit easier to read and it's meant to be printed out and filled in as you go.

Also, here's their list of DIY, which includes some of the fluids we're discussing http://blog.bavauto.com/category/various-topics/maintenance/

My '07 328xi E92 has almost 70K on it so I need to start changing some fluids as well
