My update:

I've bought the OEM trim panel for the heated seat buttons, the OEM heated seat buttons, driver side seat module and passenger side seat module.

I've installed the 2 seat modules, coded the VO for heated seats to the car, and installed the buttons. I've also wired up to the fuse box.

Now all I need are the seat heating elements!

I have another seat project too so this one has been a little slow (Putting e90 non-sport heated leather seats w/ lumbar support into my e30 project car but that's a whole other story)

I don't know how correct this is...

The difference between LCI and pre-LCI seats are that LCI seats have active head restraints which is an extra connector. I put LCI seats into my pre-LCI e92 and it works fine, modules and all. I just did not connect the extra wire for the active head restraint (It is not apart of the main yellow seat plug). The wiring however may be different between the options the seats came with since my seats had the same options.

2) If what I read on this thread is correct, I can skip replacing my current seat modules under my seat and instead install the two "mini" modules from the passenger side that is apart of the non-electric kit 61110400883. Has anyone tried this?

I've already installed the heated seat switch so I'm good to go there. I also have all the cables ready for my own programming.

I just need a little direction before I start dumping money into this project.

Thanks!

This does not include the center console switch. Since I have no PDC, nav, etc., I just needed the seat heater switches. It's a European kit, but I don't see why it won't work on US cars.

Installation instructions are online and look quite simple. No worse than the other aftermarket kits I have installed.

The big this is coding. Found a local guy who can do it for $250 (ouch!) but hopefully it will be worth it.

All said and done, I am expecting it to cost around $650. We'll see if we can make that target.
What I found is the non-electric kit 61110400883 comes up as obsolete and is replaced by 61110428194. There is a second active part number 61110405003 which is for electric seats with memory. The difference in those two kits is the seat modules with the first kit calling for two of the 61356926435 and the second kit calling for one
61356926435 and also one 61356926359.

The passenger module 61356926435 comes up as available but the drivers module doesn't. A search of RealOEM on my car gives 61359196936 as the drivers side module for electric seats with memory and WITH or WITHOUT heated seats. So - I think the modules I already have are supposed to support heated seats.

So to recap, I have sport seats with electric and memory and the modules listed for my car for either WITH or WITHOUT heated seats are 61356926435 and 61359196936.

I THINK I need just the OEM trim panel, buttons, heater elements and programming to pull this together.
Heating element, seat 64116973943
Heating element, backrest 64117140539
Heating element, thigh 64117138803
What are the Part Numbers for the OEM trim and buttons?

Did anyone ever confirm/find out if at some point all seats ended up with heating elements; just lacking wiring/buttons/coding to make them work? I though someone said the newer seats have the elements integrated into the foam or something..

Getting this fitted locally looks to be a PITA so I'm going to have to tackle this myself.

I have an '08 E93 with sports seats, electric with driver memory. What parts excatly do I need to install so that I can get this to work?

I understand that I'll need x2 modules, heated seat activation buttons and surrounding trim for the centre console, and (it appears under debate) that I need need x3 heating elements for each seat. Is that correct? Also are these plug & play (+coding of course)?

If so and I can source these parts and fit them, all I need is coding?

Your assumption is that the module under your seat is of the replacement part number which may not be correct. Like replacement seat covers for the front seats, with or without heat options, there is just one replacement part that comes with the elements integrated. The reasoning for this may just to simplify inventory management for parts department but this is just a guess. Best way is to look at your module. You'll have empty spots where there are no wires installed into what seems like available connector spots. These empty connector spots do not have pins. They also lack the electronic parts to support the heating aspects....

Coding you can do yourself if you get the cable. Just add the VO option for heated seats. There is a DIY thread on how to do this linked earlier in this thread. Sport seats will have 3 heating elements. One for the back rest, bottom rest, and thigh support. You will need two seat modules one for each seat. The modules for the driver seat is different from that of the passenger seat as the driver seat has memory position. You will also need the wiring loom (I made my own) to hook up to the fuse box. I would also invest in hog ring pliers and new hog rings when installing the heating elements. (I have yet to install my heating elements in my car). Another option to the surround trim and buttons is to replace the HVAC control panel with one that has the heated seat buttons on them instead (newer cars have this). There are threads of people reporting that this works fine as opposed to the seperate trim panel and buttons. It makes sense as the separate buttons simply plug into a connector on the back of the HVAC control panel.

you can look at my old post for part numbers. I'm assuming that the convertible heating elements are the same as coupe / sedans.

From what I've seen, cars without heated seat options do not have elements integrated into the seat covers. The seat modules also have the electronics for heated seats missing. This is with 2010, 2007 and 2006 cars. The part number called out in the parts department system or RealOEM for seat covers, regardless of heated option or not, are the same. Heating elements will come integrated with these replacement seat covers. I guessing this is to reduce inventory management for the parts department....

Thanks for pointing that out. Re-reading the thread makes me wonder if wiring will be needed between the seat modules and the radio area (JBE ??). I need to go look at the modules and the seats as well.

Finally got some help with the bezel part number 64116966406. This is for the climate control with a slot for the heated seat buttons.

No wires for switch. they just go into your HVAC panel and that's that.

Since the Retrofit cable set, 61120398203, is unavailable I will be doing my own wiring from the seat connectors (x275 and x279) to the fuse box as well as from the seat connectors to the seat modules.

Using the schematic diagram in the heated seat retrofit PDF posted earlier in this thread I see the fuse box connections needed are:

x14270: Pin 38 (passenger side O_SHBF)
x14270: Pin 34 (driver side O_SHFA)
x11003: Pin 9 (power from 5A fuse)

I need to source the socket contacts for the 47 pin x14270 connector. Also need a blade terminal contact for the 15 pin x11003 connector.

The other end of these wires will be terminated with the socket contact 61131383776, and plugged into the seat connectors (at the car side).

Do you have part numbers for the x14270 and the x11003 sockets?

Also I finally had a chance to pull the x279 connector and look at the pins. I have sport seats with electric / memory and pins 2 and 3 were empty. These are the locations for the K_CAN_H and K_CAN_L signals. The retrofit guide does not call for any connections to be made to these.

Also I already have a power wire at pin 4 and a ground at pin 8 so I only need to run two wires from the passenger seat connector back to the fuse box. I'll have to check the drivers side as well.

I also need to look at the modules to confirm the wiring needed between the seat connectors and the modules. On the passenger side it appears I would need to run just the two wires. Unfortunately these two wires need to terminate at an existing connector on the seat module so I need to see whether it uses the same sockets as the seat connector x279 does.

Final plans for my seat heating retrofit

I had a chance to remove the glove box and inspect the fuse box over the weekend. I also unbolted the drivers side seat and had a look at the seat connector x275 and the seat module. After reading again Woodpecka's DIY for electric seats and the work the Placey reported in this thread I plan the following:

Driver's side
I'm coming from electric seats with memory so I already have the CAN bus control on pins 2,3 of x275. According to what I've read the driver's side heating is controlled by the CAN bus and I do not need to hook up the PWM wires to pins 1,5. My seat module has no pins in the heater connectors so I have to replace the module and of course I have to add the heating elements. After that the driver's side should work without coding.

Passenger Side
According to what I've read, the passenger side uses the PWM signals from the JBE to control the seat heating. Therefore I need to run wires from X11001 (pin10) to X279 (pin 5) and X14270 (pin 38) to X279 (pin 1). Also, these connections have to be extended into the seat module connector X013709 with X279 (pin 5) to X013709 (pin 4) and X279 (pin 1) to X013709 (pin 3) The power wiring on X279 (4) and ground wiring on X279 (8) are existing already for electric seats and fused with 30A at F45 so it should be sufficient power. I'll need to replace the seat module and add the heating elements. After that I need to code the car to get the JBE to work with the seat heating.

It's going to take a few weeks to get everything so in the meantime I started investigating the coding issue. Here are the links to the coding threads that I found useful. I did manage to get an Acer AspireOne Netbook running Win7 32 bit with NCSEXPER for coding.

You are right! I am one of them!!! I bought all the parts, never installed it, and now have sold the car to build/buy a house. I miss my Beemer.

Anyone who is interested, I am selling the retrofit kit I bought at:

FYI-

I've been told by a professional installer (and have not confirmed myself), that if you already have power AND memory seats, you can run two passenger side seat heater modules (the cheap ones) to control the heating function only (and leave the power/memory to the existing modules.)

I looked through the BMW seat heater retrofit manual extensively when I was researching this project and came to the conclusion that it would work.

Like Booster, I bought the parts and did not get them installed before my car was in an accident. Car is gone, but I have the kit for retrofitting the heated seats in an E-90 including the switches, cover plate, heating elements, etc.

If anyone is interested, I would like to sell the kit. I have about $600 invested in everything. Any reasonable offer would be accepted. All OEM parts.
