Keeping RFT's (Heresy?)

I'd always taken the Bridgestone bashing with a pinch of salt, and kept to them on my E91 330d. Although only the rears needed replacement in the time I had it.

Now having a fleet of 1 series in the family we have a comparison between 17" Bridgestone / Pirelli (P Zero), Goodyear Ultragrip (winter) and 18" Bridgestone.

Without a doubt there is a noticable improvement in the ride on the Pirelli shod car compared to the Bridgestone one (both 17"). The difference on the 35i from the 18" Bridgestones to the 17" Goodyear winters is chalk and cheese. So much so that I am seriously looking at replacing all four for Dunlops before refitting (size issues on the 135 mean a choice of only Bridgestone and Dunlop for RFT).

I'm running Conti sc2 RFTs at the front and have just put new PS3 non RFT at the rear (225 45 17 all round with Msport susp) and hopefully this will reduce the creaks an estate inevitably generates through the cargo area, running 40 psi all round, too high maybe... Thinking if you go half RFT the shouldn't they be the front ones?

thanks for your response mate.

I have recently been in an accident where, my rear right wheel "popped" on the motorway, and my car just swivelled into the hardshoulder. could have been really really bad, because i was going 70mph+ (in a peugeot 206 mind).

If it happened to the front tyres, would it still have happened (the 360)? would I have been able to control the car better? I dont know. and rft's tend to be heavier to steer too.

they seem to be very rare, not many on ebay at all!
