For those with KW V1
I see the drop ranges from 0.6" to 1.8" in both the front and back. Seeing as the front fender gap is so big does lowering it all the way even get rid of it? I'm running the stock 18" 193M. I'd personally like a one finger fitment in the front and just slightly more in the back for that racked stance. Anyone have any pics? So hard to explain when going to the shop.

Here are the pics. Front i can lower a little more but the back is at it's max. I believe this setup will be perfect for our winters + a 19" for the summer.

Nope once u install the kw's and have the highest setting set u will b atleast 3.5" still lower then factory height. I c ur from mtl and ur probably worried about the snow. Im having the same dilema weather i should install my stock suspension for the winter i know it sounds like a bitch but what i will tell u is that by far one of the best mods u can do to an x if not the best mod is lower it. For one the factory gap between the front tire and fender is disgusting and 2 ur car will look sick after u drop it. But since u havent done it yet it might be a good idea to wait till spring to do the install and u never know u might get a good deal on some coilovers during the winter so its a win win situation whichever way u look at it.

I've been driving lowered vehicles (including RWD vehicles) for 20 years. Never had an issue in the snow. You need clearance if you live out in rural areas where they don't clean snow often but I live in the city so in storms we get cleared fast and often. Good winter tires trump all.

Looks good. Thinking of the same suspension on my e90. What's ride quality compared to stock?
I currently have Dinan stage 2 suspension (on car when I bought it) but that is just the rear, nothing in the front.

I was looking into a set of coilovers for my 335i sedan. Are you happy with the height adjustment with the KW variant 1? It seems like other sets of coilovers have the ability to go a bit lower then what you mentioned. But I could be totally wrong.

I'm on 18's and now that it's settled a little it is even lower. Once i slap some 19's on there i'll have to bring it up slightly. So IMO, this is the lowest i would go either way and like i mentioned, the front could go lower but the back is maxed out.

It is a lot stiffer compared to the stock XI suspension. Many people say it's still comfortable but i don't really agree with that but i live in a city where 90% of our roads are a mix of potholes, craters, cracks, bumps etc etc

that sounds great. I was just trying to find prices on a few sites. If you dont mind me asking, where did you buy them and what did they cost? I think Im in the same position as you except I have a sedan. I am on 18 inch oem rims now, But plan on getting some 19s. So Im guessing the drop should be plenty. It seems as if different sites have a big price difference for the KW variant 1. But Id like to see where I can get the best deal from. thanks again.

Sorry guys i made a mistake about the ride height when raised up all the way. I raised my ride yesterday and put on my winters. I currently have kw v1's installed. When i bought my car i remember that i was able to stick 4 fingers between the tire(18") and the fender which is about 3.5" (inches not cm) after i installed the kw's it dropped at the front byapprox 4" leaving no gap and about 3" in the back where the fender covered about 1" of the tire.
After i raised it yesterday to the highest setting possible i have about a 2" clearance between the tire and fender at the front. And almost flush at the back. Ill trynto upload some pics tomm to show u the b4 and after. But i think its high enough now to get through the winter. |

thank you bentrix, I just sent sean a pm to see what he says. It sounds as if the KWs are a pretty good choice for our cars. So if I got with anything I think it will be the KW coilovers. THanks for your help and time. John

FWIW I just measured the front gap on my completely stock susp. e92 xi (near new 18" Conti DWS on 189's) and it is more like 2-2.25". That is vertical gap from fender lip directly above wheel center to the top of the actual tire tread, not the outer edge of the tire directly under the fender lip. I can almost fit 4 fingers in there but they are not measuring the vertical gap. Ideally you'd measure distance from fender lip to level ground before/after with same tires. |
