He's got you. Fold-down rear seats is a must-have as far as I am concerned. You just have to pay more for it when you have a BMW.

He also might not be entirely serious. If he's saying something like "damn it's pretty - too bad the seats don't fold!" he's obviously kidding. I'd totally say something like that, and people misunderstand me all the time because umm...maybe the things I say are only funny to me...no way to tell on that one.

Maybe don't take yourself so seriously. Is he really giving you actual shit over your seats not folding? Pretty unlikely. Even if he is, it's not something to get offended about. They're friggin seats.

That said, my seats fold. Suckaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I would joke right back at him about his car, but not in a hurtful manner. If you think it affects your raise go to HR. Fuck that guy. Also, you could always look for another job.

You could own an F430, and he could drive a 1972 Datsun and he'd still be above you. He's still your boss, and that takes away any cool factor you could gain from having a great car.

.....awesome, you have to say this to your boss. Do it or your story is fake and you just want attention.

Maybe your boss doesn't know that he can sell his Honda and buy a BMW CPO for a little bit more. Peoples thinks that a BMW is always over 60k $, but this is not true.

Wouldn't do any good - the Accords do that, too. So did my Mazda 6. That's not really a feature unique to BMW.

First time he saw my car he commented on how he can probably drive something better too if he didn't have 3 kids. And I agree, I told him my wife and I wanted to take advantage of our DINK lifestyle for a little while. Outside of that, I never talk about my car, what I own, why I drive what I drive. I never "flaunt" to him that my car is better than his. In fact I always compliment him on his lifestyle choice and how we want to start a family on our own too.

He NEVER once criticized or mentioned about what I drive after the first day.

I bet your boss only give you crap, because you're probably always talking about how nice your BMW is and how it's the bombz and teh sh*ts and gets you a ton of @ss. Otherwise, I've ALWAYS had better cars than my bosses until this current job, and no one has ever said anything negative to me about it.
Another Douche bag who assumes stuff... My boss found out about me buying a BMW 2 months after I bought it cause I didn't make it a big deal...

Grrr, be nice to that poster, it goes both ways. This is like a guy I eat lunch with. He asks for advice, doesn't give all of the necessary information, then gets pissed when you give him an answer that doesn't take his missing info into account. Now, I try not to give him advice because he always has to act like a total douche about it.

Damn, I didn't expect these many responses... My boss is a nice guy and he is joking around about the rear seats... and it doesn't get to me, but shouldn't he come up with new joke or something after a year? I'm just tired of hearing a same one over and over... he is looking to get another car now, may be accord or sonata or something. And I did mention it to him that Certified preowned 3 series are not expensive at all... So who knows, he might listen to me and get a 3 series, but I'm pretty sure if he does get one he will look very hard to find one with folding rear seats... otherwise I'll be on his case for a year about it... lol.
Anyways, thanks for the input guys....

What do you want, a two page long story??? It's a simple question that requires a simple answer... People start going in different tangents all the time...

I had an Accord before E90, before Accord I had Dodge Intrepid, and before that Chevy Caprice... In all three cars I had fold down rear seats, but I never used it even for a single time... If I want to haul stuff that doesn't fit in trunk then I use my van for that.
I didn't care much when I found out that my E90 didn't have rear folding seats, cause I knew I'd never use it for any purpose.

I bought my car and everyone was just happy for me and complimented it. I don't tell people what I drive, however.

I just get nice comments if people happen to see me driving in to work. Your boss might think you're the type he can piss off...which is working.

Lately he’s been stuck on the thing that my rear seats don’t fold down. Every opportunity he gets to point that out he does, and makes it a point that his Accord’s seats folds down and has easy access to the trunk. (I guess that’s the only flaw he could see in my car)

How the heck can I shut him up for good about my back seats not being able to fold down without having my next raise affected? I don’t want to put him down but at the same time I want him to get it over with the rear seat not folding down thing… He is a nice guy though, and I know he is joking around, but still....

Any suggestions?

uh, easy access to the trunk? so my guess is he climbs in his backseat to fold down his seats to grab something in the trunk? did i get that right? cause while youre driving fold down rear seats does nothing..and since his kids are in college, who's back there to grab say a bag out the trunk through the back seats? maybe im just to lazy and rather pop my trunk. that way i can see where Everything is and its not...dark?

Most people use the fold-down rear seats to fit larger objects in the trunk. I picked up a Thule roof container once and the only way I could carry it (since I didn't know or have time to set up the load bars) was to use the fold down rear seat. Even then it was sticking out the back and I had to tie down the trunk lid so it didn't bang on the roof box when I hit a bump.
