Obviously the only solution is to punch him in the nose.

Seriously I would just say "really wish I could get a raise so I can afford to get me some of them fancy folding seats... sigh". At my last job it was the opposite. My boss had an e46 330 and most of the people at his level had new 7 series, Bentleys etc... we would always give him shit about it just for fun until he finally gave in and bought an M5.

OK here is the deal. Polite and sure fire way to deal with it. It is obvisiously bothering you on some level or you would not have written this. Just tell him politely. " Look, I know that you are probably joking around, but I do not put down your stuff and I would appreciate the same courtesy back. I have worked hard for what I have and I do not have some of the more important things that you have - like a wife and kids - so I am able to indulge myself for a few years until I can be as lucky as you are and then I will have to make the necessary sacrifices to enjoy what you have." Something along those lines .... Be polite and show that you appreciate him as a boss and a person and the lifestyle he chose but that you do NOT appreciate his comments.

Simple answer. Just keep your car and get a good deal on a used X3 and pull up with it and when he says something you can say why do I need a car with seats that fold down when I have another BMW to haul stuff around in.

Tell your boss "Yeah, you're right."

What more can he say after that?

Ok, Wirite this down so you can say it to him next time he makes a stupid comment about your BMW.

"Yeah, you're right. If I ever get to a point in my life that I have have to settle for an Accord, I'll be sure to get one with folding rear seats. Then I'll go out and kill myself!"

You're kidding right? Such a jerk doesn't deserve such sucking up to! Tell him to deal with his insecurities and leave you alone. By polite response you just feed his insecurities and just make matters worse. Bosses like this are just bullies who are afraid and insecure. They'll shut up when confronted, not when you appease them.
