Im new to bmw cars and I really like them!! I don't have that much money but I found some 2007/8 and a fews 2009s 335i for 25kish (give or take some) they all had packages on them. Sports and or premium. They had mileage no higher than 80k lowest I saw was 43kish.ive read that they are not the best used cars.. which is sad cause I love the looks. Howevee should I try to get one or put my money into a 370z subaru sti or maybe an audi?? I dont know that much I just got into cars alot and want to know the best option.

Well I don't have a 335 but I have an 06 330xi having for a year bought with 70k for about 17 added a gwc warranty for an amazing price cuz my dad's friends used car dealership. I great car NA engines don't have too much problems water pump and a few small problems here and there other than usual maintenance. car is amazing great in snow. But power mods are few and very limited won't add much power maybe 20 hp depends on whether 330 or 325/8. On the other hand 335 are faster obviously. But have some turbo problems like any car with turbos but power is easier gained from tune and a few other mods I don't know much.
Repairs might be on the expensive side. Don't go to stealership unless it's under cpo warranty obviously. Find a good place that knows bmws around you also if you get a aftermarket warranty it also helps if you get it at a good price.
One thing that will break your bank is mods lol. Once you start you won't stop lol. You'll be satisfied with the car then you see some guys here with m3 bumper exhausts etc you want the same.

If you like all the bells and whistles and want to get a car with the navigation etc. (e.g. iDrive) you probably want to concentrate on 2009 and later, MY 2009 cars got the newer CIC infotainment system which is superior in several ways to the earlier CCC. I believe that there were more improvements made later with more capabilities but I don't know when the break was; my car is a 2009 so I don't have the latest and greatest. But 2009 is a big step above 2008 I can tell you that.

So far so good. Looking at the service records the PO had a lot of the usual problems addressed under warranty (fuel injectors, water pump, HPFP) I did have to replace another injector recently. Also just had the A/C serviced as well as it wasn't blowing icy cold anymore. Other than that I've had the wheels refinished and just replaced the pads and rotors... those are the only "repairs."

Now I've done a lot of little subtle mods to make the car nicer ti drive... but that's a whole 'nother subject. And I'm dreading needing new tires, 'cause that will hurt, but they still have good tread on them for a while.

High pressure fuel pump, BMW has extended the warranty of the hpfp to 10yrs/120k miles so it's not that big of a deal.

High Pressure Fuel Pump - this is a direct injection engine (similar to a Diesel, but it runs on gasoline and still has spark ignition) so instead of the injectors spraying into the head or intake runner behind the intake valve, it sprays directly into the combustion chamber. As a result the fuel system needs ludicrously high pressures to operate hence an engine driven mechanical fuel pump. Unfortunately BMW didn't get it quite right. The challenge is that Diesel fuel is pretty much kerosene so it has natural lubrication qualities; gasoline doesn't lubricate worth a crap so it's harder to design a HPFP and injectors for a DI gasoline engine than it is for a Diesel. Unfortunately the N54 was one of BMW's first efforts with this technology (I think the V12 came first) so it's got some teething problems.

Oddly if my memory serves correctly the old M-B 300SL "gullwing" used direct injection as well, but I don't recall anyone using it on any kind of scale since until the last 10-15 years or so.

Mods... well... all I'm running is a FMIC and a Cobb tune and honestly the car is fast enough that I need to exercise restraint to keep my license. It's not the fastest car out there but it certainly will get grudging respect from even your Ford and Chevy loving buddies

2009 335i coupe, 6MT - bought it last year with about 71K miles on it, have put about 10K on it since then.

Now if you want to add up all the stuff that I've done for it that was neither required maintenance or repairs nor strictly performance related... lots. these cars just invite you to spend money on them, although right now my car is pretty close to perfect for just hopping in it and driving somewhere very far away on short notice.

Just make sure it has sports package (no buts)! The seats alone are worth the hunt, none-the-less the suspension upgrades.

On a side note, don't rule out the diesel. (If your can find one). It will hold its value well and is a torque monster.

26K sounds high, I paid under $23 for mine from a dealer (not BMW) and that was back in... September, I think? Mine is pretty fully loaded too, I don't have PDC or FLA but those are the only quasi-practical options that I'm missing (I did add alarm and Sirius already myself) maybe the 6MT hurt the value? I'm not complaining though, I would not have bought the car if it were an automatic.

Yeah the ones I sae were automatic which is no good.... but I did look at the diesel one which is unique. I do want to find one with sports package!!

how many miles did yours have when you bought it and was a cpo too? im in the market too and im trying to gauge prices just like the OP

btw yeah op get one with sport for sure, try to find one with the 18' wheels too!

High mileage 335's can be expensive to repair. Make sure the car has all it's service records and have it checked by a qualified mechanic. As said, you can get them cheaper than the price you list. BMW's are great cars but parts are expensive so just in case, make sure you can afford the repair bills. Audi's will be no better. Thorough German engineering means quality, expensive parts.

Mine had about 71K (for $23K) and was NOT CPO, no warranty other than the usual used car warranty. I got lucky in that it had been sold new & regularly serviced by my local BMW dealer, the selling dealer did not have the service records but I was able to talk to a SA and get a warm fuzzy feeling before I pulled the trigger, then after I actually purchased the car I had them print out the full service history for my records. Obviously I got a little lucky, and like I said I think the 6MT might have saved me a grand or so because everyone around here (DC area) wants an automatic.

Is this the real problem with the hpfp? Or you speculating that it may be?
I'm just asking, I'm new to bmw and looking to buy a 335i.

But if lubrication is the main problem, can you just mix some 2stroke with the fuel?

bmw has a service issue out there with the HPFP and i believe ALL HPFP are warrantied until 100k miles regarless of cpo.

and as long as you have a 335, it is so worth it!!!

Don't buy one with over 30k miles if you can avoid it. There are plenty of beautiful low milage 335s out there.
