If you do a search on xenons you will find a lot of useful information. Xenons are supposed to have headlight washers and be auto levelling, both things which are missing from your car. As far as I know it is not an easy or inexpensive change but, IIRC, some people posted alternatives which seemed to work.

Like Alan said your needs to have Xenons headlight washers and meant to have auto levelling thing. But am sure it's a straight fit. Or why don't you just go for a hid kit like I have and the other guys have. Easy to fit. It's the same bulb that xenon headlights use but fitting is different for the xenon headlight it's a ds3 or something like that and yours would be a H7

But these are just the type of illegal HID conversions that will FAIL the new MOTs from Jan 1st 2012 (yesterday).

The law says HID lights MUST be self levelling and have washers, so as not to blind all the other poor bastards when you is ridin' like bad boyz init.

It's up to you what you want to do mate, you can't really get any bulbs that are really bright mate it won't be much different to the normal bulb that you got. If you get the hids you can put them in and when it comes to do your MOT then you can take them out and once your car has pass the test put put them back in or if you know the dude very well he could let you go

The new MOT rules suck, your not allowed to anything to your car really can't even remap it

That's not really good advice, is it?

In fact, why even bother getting it taxed or insured?

Why you can't just strap on a couple of lighthouses on the front of your car & pass your MOT, if you were sufficiently bothered to actually take it, I just don't know.

Have you considered the 'lighthouse' upgrade, Business Edition?

What about one of these Viv? Would it still pass an MOT?

Am just saying mate that's one thing he could do, he doesn't have to do it.

Or the other thing is when you buy your next car just look for ones with xenon headlights

I would of love to have xenon headlights on my car.

You could get the xenon headlights put the washers and the autoleveling. Don't know how hard it is or if any one has done it

But one thing I don't get is why you need the washers.

What advise would you have for him viv

No I haven't mate to be honest with you, have you got house lights on yours viv

Just get +30 or +50 bulbs, they do help and are legal.

IIRC Auto levelling uses sensors at the front and back of car, hence difficult (read fecking expensive) to retrofit

Luckily, I've got BMW's factory-fitted xenons on my car. Legally upgrading from halogens to HIDs is likely to be more expensive, unfortunately, but it is possible. As Tim suggests, using a higher-spec halogen bulb is probably the best option for Lee.

A 'lighthouse' upgrade will give you an unbelievable bright throw of light for a second or two, followed by absolute darkness, which is pretty much what you'll get if you don't install a legal self-levelling set of HIDs with washers.
The whole point of having washers on HIDs is to reduce the risk of dirt dazzling oncoming traffic. Dirt on a HID setup will produce a far brighter 'glow' than on a halogen one.

I thought you'd have known about these things, Business Edition?

Hang on, let me get this straight: The headlamp washer system is to clean the headlamp lens? i.e. the headlamp washer system washes the headlights? I never would have deduced that from the name.

D2S bulbs re-based in an H7 halogen fitment, fitted to the halogen "Mr Kipling" pie-tin headlight reflectors look shit, dazzle other road-users and are rightly illegal. Don't do it.

Not really, the new rules are to help catch out really bad or bodge / crap mods, i.e. HID kits, cheap plug in tuning boxes, ill-sized wheels and tyres, or obvious interference with emissions systems etc...

Anyone making considered, proven or quality modifications to their cars will be just fine if it passes emissons and has no adverse effects on the safety of the vehicle.

REMAPS are not banned specifically, only if they make the car fail the emissions tests, no MOT station is able to check for REMAPs, the new checks are only by visual inspection in anycase.

Do you think someone spending £10000 on an 600BHP+ Gpower M3 supercharger conversion would want it to fail an MOT?
