After an M3 you'll want the 335d. Even in standard form it'll be as quick almost. Well mapped it will give you better economy and will be quicker than your E46 (unless it's massively modded).
We've been asking our customers about fuel economy after our maps have been applied and many have come back saying 40+mpg on motorway journeys.

The autobox in the 335d is brilliant and feels very direct, you'll enjoy it.

Getting my 335D this weekend so guess you know what way I would recommend. I was in the same position knowing a 330D would be a fantastic car but also knowing I would always want a 335D if I had a 330. In the end i am buying a 335D SE Coupe 2007 reg from a BMW dealer for less than the poster earlier mentioned for his Touring. I'm happy and cant wait to get it.

Wouldn't go for manual on the 330D unless its extremely good value as the manuals round my way are totally undesirable. Yes they may be more economic but the auto box suits the car so well and seems to be what the majority of people want.

This is an issue close to my heart - why buy a car based on what others want?

I really wanted manual and have settled for an auto - a decision that will probably always play on my mind. Will I lose the use of my left leg

This is quite funny for me as I've got a manual 330D (see below) and will soon be looking for a 335D Touring to replace it

I love my car, it does everything I could ever want and having spent weeks looking around at what I'd replace it with, I can't honestly think of anything else on the market other than another e90!

I actually need to move to an auto as I have a problem with my left knee. Not that the clutch on the 330D is heavy, it's just painful for me after a couple of hundred miles.

Love the car hate the experience with the dealer I bought it from. Its been in the garage for 8 days since purchase and I still haven't got my E90 manual or HPI document.

Oh bu66er. Mine (Sytner Leicester) did everything (taxed, early MOT, serviced, HPI'd, V5 sorted, delivered it, etc) for me and it was very easy. Bit lucky I guess? Is it garaged through issues or legal reasons?

Its had a bunch of warranty work and is now in for the front bumper to be stripped back, repair and resprayed. It had a "Smart" repair done on it which to say the least was a bit poor...

Mine needed a new tyre, a few stone chips sorting and then the usual million point check - nothing else came up. Bit lucky. All they missed was the rear middle armrest cupholder (needed a bit of a clean) but the rest was spotless.
Also had the intercooler pipe replaced (locally by the dealer) and they are sorting a stuck middle seatbelt next month - but very minor.

I'm sure yours will all be worth it soon!

Simple answer to that ......... residual value. Greater second hand market means the trade are keener at buy back time. Buy something that perhaps you love dearly but isn't for the majority of others the trade will punish you at selling time or if you decide to sell privately you will have a much smaller pool of potential buyers.

The manual turned up in the post today just waiting on the HPI check...6 weeks after buying the car.

The most important reason to go for a 335d is: it will give you much more fun to drive.

Sal of Evolve told us about 40+ mpg experiences according to his customers. I don't share that experience, but I don't care very much. Mine has been Evolved right from the start, but so far the overall average is about 35 mpg UK over 4.500 miles without a very heavy foot. In the beginning it was even worse.

I enjoy driving it and expect to do so for many more miles.

I don't agree 100% with that

The 335d is quicker than the 330d no doubt, but to say it will give you much more fun isn't true IMO

When I was looking for my E92 I tried various 335d's and 330d's and ended up buying the 330d as I actually preferred the single turbo power delivery to the twin turbo of the 335d - not many people agree with me, but heyho

Some people dismiss the 330d because it isn't a 335d, but its a great car, especially when remapped - mine has 300bhp and 500lbs, and should run under 14 secs 1/4 mile if I improve my technique lol
