Check engine light came on and car is putting

So I drove my car to run an errand, and it ran normally - until i got back in it after turning it off for about 5 hours. When I turned it on it was putting and I could distinctly hear the exhaust making a "putting" sound -- car is an 06 325i auto. When the car is in drive and I let go of the brake it putts forward and when i try and give it juice while driving it lags and seems choked... I havent had an oil change in 11,000 km and I added a litre of Castrol 5w30 synthetic about 1500 km ago. What could be the issue?! please help any advice is greatly appreciated! thanks in advance gents..

You have a misfire. Don't drive your car because you can damage your cats and those are really expensive. You need to have the car scanned and troubleshot. Most likely it's a dead coil. The way a shop will troubleshoot this is a mechanic will scan the car and see which cylinder is misfiring. Then he will swap coils with another cylinder to see if the problem follows the coil to another cylinder. If it doesn't they'll try swapping something else.

Not at all. The part is $60 and you just have to remove the engine cover to get to them.
