Unhappy Individual audio retrofit - sounds bad!

Hi guys,

I hope someone can help me. I just retrofitted BMW Individual Audio in my E92.
The car had Hifi, so I bought a complete set with speakers, amp and the whole original cables from an 2011 e93 m3.
My problem is, that the sound is not so good as it should be. It's difficult to explain. I had Individual Audio in my first E92 2 years ago, and the sound was much better.. now the retrofitted system sounds very "flat". Turning on surround while listening radio is terrible, makes the sound even worse. I don't understand that. Speakers are all working.. Everything should be coded right, at least I think. I've tried a lot of settings..
I read something about an update for the individual amp 2009, that maked the sound worse. Does somebody know about? I can't find any informations about that. In one forum, somebody wrote bmw also changed the amp hardware after 2009, so not only software but the hardware became worse .
I've also heard about compatibility issues with the different individual amp's and CCC or CIC system. I don't know if this is true. I've now the CIC. My old car, where the audio was fantastic, had the CCC.

I hope someone has an idea!

1. you need to code amp to your car config
2. you might have damaged amp, many people here and on m3post look for used amp
3. you might have damaged subs, sometime wire between connector and speaker breaks due overloading
4. you also need to add two speakers in shelf if you got e93 system and want to use it in e92 because you'll lose your rear pdc sound after coding
5. did you correctly connected crossovers ?

1. The amp has 2 parameters for coding: The chassis and DIRAC on/off. The M3 cabrio didn't have the 2 speakers in shelf. All cabs doesn't have speakers there. Because of that, I coded the amp to e93m3. The rear pdc is then played from the rear side speakers (or called surround speakers). Because the cabby's don't have the shelf speakers, I think that they are not really necessary, or am I wrong?

2. Maybe.. is there any way for testing the amp? I have another amp available, but that's an amp from a car with CCC. I think that here I will have compatibility issues?

3. I had a damaged sub. the right one was damaged. It was exactly the wire between connector and speaker. I replaced that sub with another used one. Both subs are working now and sounds equal, when playing each one alone from INPA.

4. see 1.

5. What do you mean exactly with crossovers? My english isn't perfect

Make sure you turn off the surround in the settings. Surround kills the quality of the Dirac.

crossover - frequenzweichse
these are installed in individual audio system in front doors. between speakers and tweeters
i've sold some such systems, you may check my topic picture
http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1399019531
they are those small black boxes with yellow wires
all amps will work with ccc or cic

Ahh this thing yes, they're connected correctly. The connectors are different, so you can't connect it wrong I think.

No problem, where are you?
We can also check your wiring and coding if you need it.

I tried another amp yesterday. It's from a 2008 car, so one of the first amp's.
I compared both amps and I think the 2008 amp sounds a little bit better (but I'm not really sure, I would have to compare both amps a little bit). But it's still not what I expect, still a "flat" sound. It depends really on what you're listening to. You hear the "flat sound" on vocals more, than on house music for example.

spotify is max 320kbps
you should test on uncompressed wavs or cd-audio
combox or mulf2high can play wav's

Even if it's 320kbps max, it should sound great with this audio system. I always listen to spotify or radio, and the sound with both was fantastic on my old car with individual audio.

//EDIT:
@ptpending I see from your signature, you have retrofitted individual audio, too. Do you know what amp you have and which software is on the amp?

Yep, I have one.

Do you have time tomorrow? I've send you a PM.
