Anyone watch Top Gear tonight..BMW rules!! Even the Audi RS5 that has 30more bhp is a fraction slower! It all makes sense now why most dealership has the matt grey M3 as the demo car..it's almost like they knew it will feature in Top Gear tonight...still don't like the man with a head full of pubic hair though.

Rs5, appalling understeer and even with four wheel drive could not beat an M3 around a wet track!!
Very disappointing, you would thought for all that money Audi would have got it right? |

+1, against what is essentially a 3.5 year old car

M3 still the daddy.
It might be a totally impractical colour, but must say it does look good in that frozen paint, especially with those CSLs. Just off to PH to casually check the M3 classifieds - I suspect I won't be alone.....

Why did they use the M3 Competition Pack model with over £3k's worth of suspension etc mods on it.
It's not chrome Will lol and like Paul has modded his M3 away from the standard factory stuff, you can choose not to have that grille surround you spec. it differently from the factory. Funningly enough The Autocar vid that was posted on here gave a different view but no-one really commented on that lol and that was standard against standard. That was over a closed road type 'circuit'. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=466782 I really need to drive one now...........no intention of buying either mind you. Enjoy the V8's whilst their still in production. All good fun!! Paul - You haven't posted for a while. You driving the M3 a bit more now then? |

I do think It was a slightly biased review if the two though in all honesty. He did induce some of that understeer himself. No doubt it was as he says but he made it look worse than it really was for sure!

Evo mag tested both a few months back and the M3 won again. It also beat the C63

As for prices btw - The M3 is £54,545 in manual guise but add DCT and EDC (both standard in different names on the RS5 and you get to £58,515). The RS5 is £58,685, but the M3 does come with idrive as standard but 18" wheels as opposed to 19". What BMW are doing at the mo until 31/03/11 for the M3 is you can spec. DCT as an option and over optional equipment to the same, similar or lesser value to try and keep the cost down. Andrew you nutter lol...............the C63 sounds the best have to agree. |

I enjoyed that head to head, just another realization that the m3 is v.hard to beat.
What were Audi thinking with that petrol droplet in the exhaust on gear change thing, fix the understeer first. It does represent most of their customer base, it's more image than pure driving perfection. |

The mpg doesn't though Been doing plenty of fettling with the track car Helen, so spending some time over on Scoobynet, buying bits and pieces for it and gaining information - been popping on and off here though but mainly on the iphone which is pretty crap for posting. Still driving the M3 yes, everyday pretty much. Prob doesn't do as many miles as it should but with a 20 month old to ferry round at weekends, the larger boot of Karen's CC makes more sense - as does the 40+ mpg it does! Going back to the M3 vs RS5 issue, I don't think the competition pack would make a blind bit of difference to the times posted or the handling. The only thing it offers I think is 10mm less ride height, which is the same as the 'Edition' models last year. The rest is CSL style wheels and EDC and I am pretty sure the Audi would have had their version of EDC fitted (prob as standard?) Audi's have always had a reputation for understeer - my A4 quattro used to do the same and it was the only part of the car's handling I didn't like as the 4WD used to make you feel very safe, especially when pressing on down country lanes etc. On a track, yes, the M3 wins. i don't think there are any saloon cars around that price bracket that can touch it. BUT on the road, could the M3 be pressed as hard as it was on the track by the average driver? I guess not, and this is where the RS5 will feel better. On a wet road, it will be the more sure footed car but chuck it on a track and the handling will always let it down which is such a shame as I can't believe Audi haven't sussed the electronics and the car's weight distribuition better to overcome this. The M3 is prob the most balanced car I have ever driven. I am no expert driver though! Last edited by M3-FAST; 02-20-2011 at 06:24 PM.. |
