Another Insurance Rip Off

This can't be beaten.

I'm 47yrs old with 30yrs driving experience, 23yrs NCD and a clean licence.

My wife is 49yrs old with 3 1/2yrs experience, 3 yrs NCD and a clean licence.

I have a '57' plate E92 320i and I have modified it.

Mods are:- Black Kidneys, and Performance Auto Gear Shift.

I have just added the Performance Rear Silencer and my insurer has now refused to insure me with my wife on my policy with this enhancement!

My premium is £254 and they told me to take my wife off and "stay legal" is a further £85. Without the £85 I am not insured.

Previous car was an R32 and no problems.

How can they work this out?

It's beyond me!!

Wow £1,200.

My XR2 cost me that in 1989. Still look on the bright side mate, an M3 at your age!! good going, I could only afford a 1.1 Fiesta Ghia at your age. Had a young family.

Dohh, still felling old!

Double

Just got a quote for an Aston Martin for me and the wife and my insurers [privilege] who have just refused me with my exhaust are happy to insure us on a £30k car for less than £500.

Utter madness IMHO!

Adrian Flux!

They are good for modified cars. I was with Admiral until I wanted wheel spacers - wouldn't insure me at all!

I am with Adrian Flux now. They didn't charge any extra for my dual exhaust conversion, plus they don't charge for "admin costs" when the policy is changed - e.g. when I transferred my reg plate. They just amend the policy and email you a copy.

I am sure NJ1161 uses them too.

Do you really declare grills and a shifter as a mod? What about non BMW screenwash, or a magic tree airfreshener, do you declare that?

Mod by mod you always get hammered with a sort of minimum charge, so it will seem a lot if your premium is already low.

If its that bad, just cancel the policy and go elsewhere (if that doesn't hammer you with charges too)

Odd, AF wouldn't quote me, but Admiral did all my mods quite reasonably..

Now I'm with Esure (thats right my dear) they were best with all the mods, all these 'specialist' insurance brokers are s##t in my experience, they just markup other policies that you can get cheaper yourself.

Bizzare.
