urgent assistance required - calling 3 series e9o 318/320 owners nov 2007 reg
My car makes a whistling noise (like a kettle) which is audible from 8 mph onwards. It peaks between 20 - 30 mph and after 40 mph the road noise masks it. I took it to the dealership and they said this is a normal with these cars and attributed it to the steering pump ?? I have never heard this type of whistling on any cars that i have previously owned. Hwr if any owners can confirm whether they hear the whistling noise or if they dont it would be deeply appreciated.

I had to have my PS pump replaced after a similar noise - not so long ago.
It would basically "whine" really loud when I started up - however after 10 mins of driving it would be gone, due to the PS Pressure being "self bled" driving it would force the air out of the system. Cost for a new PS Pump was £500 - Part only. |
