Hey guys, long time forum lurker but now I can finally say I'm apart of the community (I have also read every single page on this thread before I posted, haha!) Last week I picked up my first BMW and of course I went with the 335is! Absolutely love the car, it's easily the nicest vehicle I have ever owned and I can't wait to see how she handles after a few mods. Speaking of mods I have actually already ordered some toys. Being shipped to me now: BMS CP, VRSF DPs, BMS Oil-Catch Can, AFE Stage 2 Cai & JB4 of course!

Unfortunately the weather has been complete garbage the past week or so and thus I don't have any great pictures of the car. But I've got one decent one. I'll provide more later.

Now I want to lower the car a bit and get those wheels flushed up. What are my options? I read that with the 19" all I need is a 12mm in the back and a 10mm upfront to have them sitting nice and flush without rubbing. Can anyone attest to this? Also it seems the cars front is a tad higher then it should be. What are my options for lowering this bad girl. I don't want the slammed look, just want to bring the front down a bit.

Also, unfortunately the front plate was mounted from the dealer I purchased the vehicle from and I have since removed that and the bracket for a clean front fascia however I now have 6 screw holes I need to have resolved. Looks like I am going to have to visit a body shop and have those filled and have a respray done.

Thank you,

Peppers

Hey Peppers,

For those pesky bumper holes you mentioned, there is another option rather then having your bumper sprayed and cheaper to boot. There are bumper plugs from these guys:

http://www.bumperplugs.com/index.php...&product_id=73

Now if you are DIY guy like myself then you can always swing by your local autoparts store or Home Depot and find the appropriate plug yourself and get some factory touchup paint and do it yourself. I'm also in the same boat as I just picked up my IS a few weeks ago and will be doing a tag delete and I'm STILL trying to decide what spacers I should go with. There seems to be varying opinions on what works and I think in the end I'll try a few different sets for the perfect setup that works and then sell the ones I don't use and take the hit... Hope I could help with the plugs option and save you from painting an entire bumper.

Joe

Joe, if you are using a stock wheel setup, I would go with 5 mm in the front, and either 12 or 15 mm in the rear. 12 mm you should be 100% fine with no rubbing. 15 mm you may rub here and there. I have 5 mm, 12 mm, and 15 mm, just depends on what set of rims I have on.

Either way, the best thing to do is get a custom tune and use the Cobb just as a starting point. Nothing is wrong with their maps and they can get pretty aggressive while still staying somewhat safe, but there is a lot more power to be had with a custom tune. Smoother power, at that.
Agreed. I ran the Cobb stage 1 aggressive for a couple months and wasnt very impressed. I switched to a BQ/Wedge tune and the difference is HUGE. I am only on the initial map and am amazed by the difference. Once I get some logs over to those guys and a few updates I should be optimized!

Thanks for the advice! Any chance you have some shots front to back and vice versa of that setup on your car with the stock rims? I would love to see how they "poke" to get an idea before pulling the trigger. Thanks in advance! Joe

Does anyone even drive their IS in stock mode? i.e. turn on car, put DCT into drive.

I pretty much leave sport and S mode on at all time. The difference between the 3 modes is pretty big in my opinion. Driving my IS in simple drive mode is a completely different experience from Sport+sequential. Can't beat those loud burbles and engine braking when you push that DCT lever to the left with sport mode on. However, in traffic I need to take it out of sequential mode because passengers get nauseous with the constant engine braking and being slapped back into their seat going form S3 to S2.

On a side note, after owning the car for 6 months now, I've yet to encounter someone on the road who can keep up with this car (bone stock) what a beast.

Things I like:
Brutal acceleration in Sport+Sequential
Decent ride quality on 18's
Comfortable seats
Clean looking interior
Thick, heavy steering wheel
Amazing sound

Don't like:
Brake calipers look unfinished

I drive in D in super heavy traffic, otherwise sport+m+dtc. Probably why I get 14 mpg.

Don't get too cocky - there are IS eaters out there even if you have not run into one yet. But - the car is a little beast without being modded and has more low end torque than the M3 of the same "genotype and year." Still - un-modded it is not an M3 and before my COBB I came up against an 335i N55 that was hanging with me stock; albeit I had a full tank of gas and passengers where he was the sole driver. Still - does not take much to make the car an M3 without the swollen looking always tensed muscles of the M3. 335is is a beautiful insidiously sleek car. The burble once you remove the baffle/flapper valve produces a sound with the OEM exhaust that is orgasmic to hear - IMO - the car modded is the equivalent of and F16 where the M3 is the bigger F15. I picked the 335is over the M3 and have not been disappointed with the decision though the M3 is still the beautiful King Kong and I will have one of those parked in the garage also (2013 and earlier) not M3 hating by any means so no 335is hate mail from M3ers please! LOL.

I have the habit of hitting the sport button as I pull it in to drive, but I find sport/sport too aggressive for normal around town driving. I agree that "just plain Drive" shifts way too early. Probably engineered to make the best possible EPA ratings.

I'd really like to find a way to make "sport" the default.

I thought about the same thing... I have an appointment this weekend to have some coding work done and was going to ask him if that was something possible with coding. I'll let you know what he says...

I have had my IS for almost a year now and loved every minute of it. So far, I have only upgraded the wheels and I am now interested in adding some performance mods (E.G., FMIC, Oil Cooler, Air Intake, (Cobb, JB4 or Dinan Stage 2), DPs, Charge Pipes, etc.).

For all you experienced modders and experts (I am not)... if you were me and you only had $3k to $5k to spend on performance mods (excluding Brakes) what would you upgrade to (the more specific the better) and in what order? I will not ever track it and it is my daily driver.

Used to have a 335is, i would recommend to keep the money and don't do any of the mods, maybe upgrade the FMIC. I tried cobb, jb4 and nothing compares to the overboost and hard acceleration that the is has from low rpm. I didnt like any of them. If you plan to track your car its a different story but for fun and street use keep it as is, you will not regret it. Good luck!

Thank you. Certainly the most economical advice and that which I have followed thus far. Actually, every time I click the shifter lever to the left + push the sport button and then step on the gas, I think to myself...how the heck much more could I possibly need than this? It is already exhilarating and plenty fun, no sense lining the local LE's pockets any more than I already am.

I do know that it is possible to have the DTC semi-off with coding, not sure about the sport button.
