CXRacing FMIC - Dyno Results
After reading the many Big Tom and CXRacing threads, I decided to install the CXRacing FMIC and do my own tests.
I dyno'd the car with only Vishnu PROcede with the off the shelf v5 maps (13psi peak) on Weds. I susequently installed the CXRacing FMIC and nothing else, then re-dyno'd 6 days later on the same dyno, same time of day, same temps (90F shop temps). I used a 2.5" piping kit from ebay (comes with silicone couplers, tons of bends, and t-bolt clamps). The kit plus the FMIC was $270 shipped. As you can see while the peak HP went up 10whp, the area under the curve is different. There is a consistent ~10whp gain from about 5300rpm to redline, with a similar tq gain. There is also a little positive tq hump earlier which I cannot explain. From what I've seen, this is consistent with other name brand FMICs at this power/boost level. I wonder how it would do at 16psi. *Although the below graphs show 297hp/307hp, the best pulls were 300whp/342wtq with stock IC and 307whp/341 with CX. The runs varied by about 3hp/tq and I compared the two mid ones. The logs are in this order:
The fan in the shop is HORRIBLE and is what you can buy at Walmart for $40. True gains on the street should be great. As you can see in the road graph, I typically run a good 2-3 degrees more timing on the road than on the dyno. I hope this data is useful to the group. -TG [edit] Had steel brackets welded to core and bolted to bumper beam. Added pic. Last edited by The Ghost; 10-22-2011 at 08:49 PM.. |

Good job man, just proves once again if you put the work in its a good small purchase and DIY.

I'd take a look at that big mis-fire around 3600rpms.....something isnt right there....

What should they be? While there is temp/humidity correction, the car still runs less timing on the dyno than the street. I thought 300/342 with chip only was typical, is it not?
Right, dip is there for all of my pre/post runs. If anyone can help explain this, I'd appreciate it. |

I do see the ignition drop, but directly above it, I also see some (what I believe is) correction in the inverse I can understand pulling the timing right there at pk tq but that is a pretty drastic ramp rate (which is obvious by observing the tq reading)

I've attached two graphs showing the timing details at ~3600rpm, the first with stock IC and the second with upgraded the intercooler (both dynos have the dip, but I included both none the less). Last edited by The Ghost; 06-14-2011 at 11:16 PM.. |

Timing looks good, nothing to worry about. Not sure about the dyno dips... Check the dyne sticky and compare. Could be how the dyno is loaded, vanos. Nothing in the logs would point to this.
OP, you mind if I post an AMS log... I think I can find one with similar ambient, rpm pull, and boost. I'm procede with fmic also. curious how they compare. |

Knock is generally a 3deg drop from consecutive sampling points. But make sure you are comparing similar load / boost values. During spool for example there will be a large sudden drop in timing. We can log knock also, but chances are you will skip the data sample and it won't get recorded. Just like you can't log every rpm. Useless channel. |

I've only tuned cars with an AEM EMS and we can monitor knock sensor voltages individually (My RB26 powered car has 1 per 3 cylinders)
Naturally the knock sensor will have some noise but usually anything up over 1V I'll interpret as knock. In the dyno chart below (RB26 car, I wasnt running a tight enough plug gap and the spark blew out, causing that hiccup) I am curious to see how other dyno's compare.... An abrupt dip of about 30ft/lbs especially at pk tq is definitely not something to ignore...

AMS FMIC Log
Below is a log of 3rd to 4th. It was 100deg during mid afternoon. I had just romped on it after heating up at a stop light, u-turn and stepped on it in 3rd (log shown). About 4000rpm to 6200rpm... i think the OP reved higher to around 6500. My log shows a 124 start of 3rd to 129deg F at the end of 3rd.
OP, what was the ambient temps when you logged the street run? From the log looks like about 34deg C to 42deg?? Typically I see about 15deg F above ambient for IAT when cruising, but there's very little rise in temp during 1 gear WOT. Boost was around 11psi, but i'm at 1000 ft above sea level, so more like 11.5 to 12psi actually. did you log wastegate DC by chance... i would be curious since we have similar mods and boost. EDIT: 91oct shit southwest gas |
