Ordered Birds Supension Kit

I'm finally getting rid of my m-sport setup crap crashing all the time when it sees a hint of a bump and man hole cover, and skipping over the road,
Bought the birds custom tuned B3 3.5 sport suspension
Toss up between BMW performance suspension but reviews from magazines quoted the birds suspension is a lot better for almost the same money.
Did not want coil overs as too many adjustments and time consuming.
I will give a review once its installed, can't want.

What is it? I haven't heard of it.

Most coilover setups are set and forget anyway.

It seems like it's gotten a good review! Let us know how it goes.

Down the end I managed to decipher what the kit includes:
- Birds' springs
- Bilstein Shocks revalved to Birds' specs

Yes stu you are right special calibrated spring rate to his specification and bilstein shocks re-valved to suite his specification by bilstein.
After 4yrs on m-sport looking forward to the change.

Hmm seems kinda expensive for springs and shocks, wouldn't you be better off with the bilstein b14 coilovers?

Here is some interesting reading from the bmw magazine
I did not want to be making adjustments all the time, plus i want the oem look not coilovers.

I'm not criticising your choice as such was just curious

The b14's are non adjustable (bilstein engineers have set the dampers to their desired settings) and pretty much look similiar to the normal bilstein shocks except the front dampers are stainless in appearance (oh and blue springs...)

Yes i did look at the B14 a while ago, but i wasn't going to gamble on how stiff or not the ride would be, but after what Kevin Bird does to the 335 is able to handle our shocking degrading brisbane roads with comfort and great handling at the same time, well i hope its true when i get the suspension fitted.
I don't mind paying more for this setup, as a lot of people said its light and day between the m-sport with 19'' wheels crashing on every little bump and trying to control the car on a fast corner when it hits a dip.
You can't push m-sport suspension at fast speeds and enjoy youself without the car going off line.

Hello Aus members

I just noticed this thread and thought I would make some comments because we see/hear about the Birds suspension a lot more often in the UK than I guess you do.

As you've rightly pointed out, Birds are just selling Bilstein equipment which has been modified to their specifications. The price is (in my opinion) very high for what you get, but what you're actually paying for is the knowledge, experience and research which Birds have put into the kit.

It was developed about 4-5 years ago now in conjunction with a member here called E92Fan (who used to run one of the most extensively modified E92 335i's in the UK) and the kit is specifically designed to meet and correct the flaws that the UK market found early on with the E92. Specifically, E92's all feature Sport suspension in the UK (whether SE or M-Sport spec) and run flat tyres. In conjunction with our poorly maintained (and generally bumpy/undulating) roads, the combination of rock hard suspension and steel reinforced tyres is extremely uncomfortable.

From a 'sports driving' kind of perspective, the UK's best roads are largely these kind of smaller back roads which suffer from a very poor road surface - and when M-Sport/Runflat equipped BMW's tackle these roads at speed, the result is that the standard suspension cannot react fast enough (and is too harsh) so the back end skips about a lot and does not allow for progressive power delivery. This is especially true when considering higher power cars.

So basically, the Birds kit should allow for a much better feel when driving on poor road surfaces, whilst at the same time reducing body roll AND in general providing a better ride than a stock car with sports suspension. You will want to ditch your run flat tyres if you have them too, as Birds have only really tested/reccomended the kit for use with premium sports tyres.

I've been in E92Fan's car with this setup both in the UK and on the Nurburgring and I've also been in another member here's car on the 'Ring with the same kit fitted. I think it's a very good, fixed suspension kit which will suit the needs of anyone who doesn't want a crazy drop (that only coilovers would achieve) and who wants to maximise comfort AND fast driving capability.

I hope you enjoy the kit!!

Matt

Yeah having now read the op's first post in detail, I think it will be ideal.

In England we have this idea that because of the current economic high that you guys are experiencing that all your roads are glass smooth and you have no troubles

Sounds like motorists in all countries suffer from the same shoddy surfaces!!!

I had read about Birds kit before on UK forum and looked very promising.

Keep us posted!

The break down price was B3 Custom valved bilstein shocks and custom made springs
997 pounds
177 pounds del.
1155 pounds = $1710 plus i got hit with customs of $300
So not cheap but if its excellent on the road i will be happy as shit in mud.
