Focal IFBMW-S

These appear to be popping up now in the UK, has anyone tried them yet?

http://www.focal.com/en/dedicated-dr...050750531.html

I'm thinking of getting them as a first step in upgrading my audio. Depending on how they sound I'll look into amps from there.

Can anyone advise on whether they'd work ok in in a car with Base Audio and idrive (CCC, Nov 2007 car)?

Specs listed are: LINK

Aluminium/magnesium inverted dome
tweeter
Crossover: 18 dB/oct (4 kHz)
Max. power: 80W
Rms. power: 40W
Sensitivity (2.83V/1m): 90.5dB
Frequency response: 85Hz – 22kHz
Nominal impedance: 4Ω

Thanks all!...

Doubt it, I wouldn't even run these with the "more powerful" top hi-fi/L7 amp. These need an amp installed.

An amp might make them better, but they are designed to be straight bolt in replacement speakers.

I doubt it would sound much better with just speakers. Without an amp there isn't enough power. Also the base system has an eq that compensates for the lack of tweeters. If you add tweeters the treble will most likely sound harsh.

To fix the eq you can recode to hifi or get a cleansweep. You should start out by reading the stickies.

It's nice to see that there is finally a plug and play speaker set other than bsw's.

Yeah I've done a bit of reading so was thinking this and a recode might be enough to keep me happy for the time being but I've not got my head around the power outputs / impedence etc stuff yet.

I'm not looking for a massive improvement, just better clarity than the stock system seems to provide. Sounds like I might be best off spending twice as much on the Alpine I upgrade from the start though...

Thanks all!

I just came across this thread & would like some information. I bought my car used and have come to discover that my audio system is not the base version. I have 2 speakers, 2 tweeters in the front, as well as the woofers underneath the seats. I also have 2 tweeters & speakers in the back behind the passenger seats, NOT on the doors. I am highly interested in getting this Focal setup. 3 questions remain:

1. The MBQuart integration kit includes subwoofer for under the seats. Since Focal does not - what is best to use instead for subwoofers?

2. Does the amp have enough power to run said setup?

3. If not, I have a 4 channel oldschool Rockford Fosgate 501x Punch amplifier. Would this suit it better?

Thanks for all the information that has already been given!

I would say start your own thread but to ans your questions

1 The under-seats are not woofers but more mid-bass drivers. Depending on what type of music you listen to will dictate what would be better.

2 The HIFI amp which is what you have is not really strong enough to push most aftermarket stuff good. There are several threads you can read thru on here.

3 If you have it then you may as well use it if you're on a budget if not then I would change it. (I was personally never a RF fan)

If you have more questions I highly suggest starting here and here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=641323
