Need help/advice

Ok so i've been enjoying my setup for a while but there are some issues with it that I finally want to get sorted since I don't really have anything else to do to the car. So my current setup is JL XD600/6 and the MB quart kit. I've thoroughly enjoyed it and it sounds great, however, at low-medium volumes I started getting a buzzing from what I think is the tweeter during some songs about a year ago. Anyways a few weeks ago I contacted MB Quart and got them replaced by warranty and the buzzing was back the second day.

So here are my questions. Is this a sign that they are blown, or are my settings too "aggressive"? On the MB quart crossovers I could change the tweeter level but I left it at the normal one it came at. Would putting it on the lower level (-3 DB I think) fix this? Final question is could this just be that the MB quart tweeters are shitty? If so any plug and play fitment recommendations for around the $200 mark. I'd consider upgrading if I could keep the price around that and just holding onto the MB quart sub's since those sound great IMO. Anyways any help is greatly appreciated and below are my settings on the amp

It might be yoiur radio or idrive

It might be your radio or idrive
If you disconnect the inputs to the amp does the noise go away?
If you put another audio source on the Inputs does it go away?
There have been some threads on here were the radio was the issue.
Your inputs setup looks about average if the front doors are at 9 o clock and
not 3 .

Yea they're at 9 not 3. I'll see if I have a cable to put the input directly on my phone tomorrow. The noise isn't necessarily a buzzing though i'd say it's more of a scratchy sound during some tones of songs. I'll see if I can get a video of the noise tomorrow and also try changing the input. Thanks for the suggestions

Ok so plugged my phone directly into the front inputs and the buzzing was still there but nowhere near as much as it is normally. It was very slight

Try switching channels 1/2 with 3/4 or 5/6 and see if it's still the same.

I don't think the factory headunit is the cleanest source even if it is coded to hifi.

I would also try raising the gain a little bit. The stock headunit might be clipping if you are close to max volume.

Thanks for all the help . So after I try all this if the buzzing is still there is it safe to assume the tweeters are blown?

That noise you here at first is not what I would call buzzing

That noise you here at first is not what I would call buzzing
That is a signal being amplified.
You could dissconnect the tweeters and see if it isolates the
sound to them.

Not the noise in the beginning the noise that starts at :04 that sounds scratchy. I'm gonna add that to the list of things to try

if you can up your crossover for the tweeter to -12db or -24db, that will help. -3 db means anything below the crossover point will only be diminished by a factor of 3. This will cause the tweeter to play below its intended range. upping it to -12 or -24 will ensure it doesnt try to play lower notes at a high volume, which is how tweeters get blown.

I think the crossover on these only has -3db, 0, and +3db. I'll try messing with it and see if that helps. Probably gonna do all this stuff today cause i'm finally getting the car back from the bodyshop

Something on db and sound level

http://www.conradaskland.com/blog/20...volume-change/

3db is not 3 times anything as its a logarithmic scale.
It genraly recognized as twice the power or half the power if -
but not exactly half or twice the volume.

Well today did some testing. Switched crossover settings and switched wires for pos and neg on the tweeters and nothing still buzzing. Gonna try the other stuff like switching channels tomorrow hopefully

Few possibilities:
1- Isolate ground noise (search it)
2- Gains are inappropriate so double check it.

I have not heard anything in the setup or perhaps video is not highlighting it.

Tweeter gives you most of the upper frequencies. Once they amplified, they may sound to you being buzzy. As ctuna states, it does not sounds like buzzing.

Also, bear in mind few things;
1- Is unit coded to hi-fi as if not then you are feeding it more voltage than recommended.
2- Is your amp good? On some JL amps, they pick some noise for un-necessary reasons.

I don't see tweeters being faulty.

Interesting.... You guys don't here that noise in the first few notes of the song that are not a part of it? When i listen to it on my comp or with headphones the notes sound the way they are but on the car it does that buzzing that i guess isnt coming out in the vid.

Car isn't coded to hifi but i had hifi stock so assumed i wouldn't need it coded...?

You don't need coding if you already had hifi.

So you haven't tried turning up the gain a little bit? I think you might be hearing some distortion from the stock headunit.

That's "input sens" on the jl amp right? I'm gonna head out and try to figure this out now
