Used TCU

Hi,
I have a 2007 BMW 328i with iDrive and Nav. I found a junk yard that is willing to sell me the TCU, Bluetooth Antenna, wiring and mic. My question is, will a used TCU (that I buy from a different car) work in my car? I was worried that it may be "married" to the original car's VIN and not be able to be coded. Thank you.

What MY is that TCU from?

You will need the TCU (the latest MY after 2007 the better), the mic, the BT antenna (if it is not already installed in your car); the FZD roof console is required but the install is complicated as it has to match your specific car.

You do not need any wiring from the junk yard, it is already installed in your car.

You do not need to code the TCU to use Bluetooth; you need coding if you want Assist, and that's where the FZD can give you problems if it does not match your car VO.

See sticky for more details.

Thank you so much for the reply and helpful information. I have the bluetooth prep in my car already so I was hoping for a quick and easy install. I am going the factory route because I want it intergrated into the iDrive screen. If there is a better (cheaper) way to go about this please let me know. Thank you.

If you can get that TCU and the rest of the parts for no more than $150-$200 -again, it depends on the model year, the more recent the better- then I would advice you to buy the FZD new.
