Down pipes

Can anyone explain to me the benefits/ differences of spending $1500 vs $300 a pair of dp's
Does it not make much difference? Even $1000 seems alot for 2 steel pipes??

Cheers

The price difference is generally build quality and accuracy of fitment.

My favourites by far are Wagner Tuning. They're 70mm diameter which is perfect unless you're making 650kw or something crazy. They also have flex sections which I think are worth having.

^ as Brad said.

Quality and fitment, the money you save on eBay downpipe might come back and hit you at the mechanics installing it when it takes them 3 hours

Someone on here got some cheaply and was hit with an extra $300 on top of the original quote, something like that, because they were a bad fit and hard to get in.

There isn't left and right hand drive down pipes.

What brand are they?

The pipes itself are the same. The bungs for the 02 sensors are different.

1. catless or catted downpipes.
catless have no catalytic converter (a mesh like filter within the pipe) which means the pipe is hollow. This means it is cheaper to manufacture. Slightly higher power gains with catless, but they leave an odour.
catted downpipes have a less restrictive catalytic converter than Oem (usually 200cpi) so cost more to manufacture making them more expensive.

2. brands.
some well known brands cost more vs products from taiwan or china. Its like buying a Panasonic vs a Palsonic.

3. Fitment and quality
As others have pointed out, its just a pipe/pair of pipes at the end of the day. Well known brands like Wagner tuning are made in Germany and are designed and engineered for German cars so you know you get top quality stainless steel pipes and fitment is spot on.

for catless, some cars will have black mark (fuel residual) built up at the rear bumper, is it only the case where the 2nd cat under the car is removed as well?

Haven't seen it on my car, I'm cat less and N55 so no mid pipe cat like N54 and the performance exhaust.

I did add resonators in the mid pines though so they might stop some of the black built up.

I got them off a supplier on alibaba, I work for a company that imports and had them send it to another factory in China that I get containers from.

They seem fine to be honest just wanted to check, does any one know if it will come up with certain error codes once installed? and how to fix this?
Getting the put in on Tuesday

Thanks!

Make sure you get a fixed price quote. Those down pipes might fit fine, but most likely not. Common issues are rubbing on the engine mount or the subframe or oil pan. Might require a lot of fettling and labour costs exceeding a pair of decent fit downpipes.

I really hope they fit. U can trial out for others.

They sort of look like multiple circumcisions gone wrong and then stitched up and again and again .... and again.

Keep us in the loop. It's possible they won't fit and u will still have to pay for installation.

Installing incorrext DPS 500.
New DPS that fit 500
Installation of DPS that fit - 500

End up costing alot.

International shipping is what will kill u lol

Check eBay to see if u can find some cheaper too. If u find something u want. Google fitment first.
