About to pull the trigger 330i

Ok guys,

After reading the advice of this forum I am about ready to pull the trigger on an '06 330i 6MT/Prem/Cold. My only nagging question is maintenance/reliability.

The car has no warranty and 47,000 on the clock. I drive about 10,000 year. Should I expect expensive maintenance bills in the near future and/or worry about repair costs?

I can spend a little more and get an '07 335i, but it's about $5,000 more, and to be honest I enjoy driving each equally.

So is 47k too much! What say you?

THANKS!

I have a friend who bought a 2006 330i with 100k miles on the clock a little over a year ago. He's had very minimal problems, essentially only stuff that could be considered normal maintenance for a car with that kind of mileage.

I say go for it!

Good God man, 47K is barely broken in. The N52 is a quite reliable engine. If your concern is maintenance cost, why, after reading the 1000's of threads on this forum about HPFP failures (with a recall to boot and apparently no real fix after 4 years), would you want to buy a 335i?

The 330i will be a good car for you.

You need to pull that trigger! 330i with a manual? what a great combo!

Change out the fluids when you get it and enjoy a long life together!

Thanks guys. Any other comments are appreciated. Other cars I am considering are G35 and TL Type S, but the Bimmer is where my heart is...

Get the BMW, my co worker has a 2001 100k mile 323 sedan and I enjoy driving it, it feels way more solid and rides better than the 04 TL I had and the 05 subaru I had. The japanese cars are just too floaty!

Great choice on the 330i, I compared the 2006 e90 330i to a 2007 e90 335i and the decision was not hard at all in buying my 330i. To much HPFP controversy to suit me and the idea that the 330i was a single year offering made the 330i a little more rare. Bought mine as a CPO a year ago w/ 32,000 miles on the clock. No issues prior to my purchasing it and other than a leaking mechtronic sleeve on the Steptronic Transmission since I purchased it, this car has been great.

Just picked up an 06 330 6MT Sport pkg w/ 81k 2 weeks ago. Was a one owner and the Carfax was clean (some things can slip through I know). Just had a blown fuse for the cigarette lighter and the tires need replacing which is getting done this week. Previously bought an e46 with 60k and drove it to 100k when it was killed protecting me and my family coming back from the ACC Championship game. Would have run another 100k easy. Was looking ONLY for a e46 ZHP and saw the e90. Went and test drove it and I didn't want an e46 anymore. Amazing car. Everything the e46 does, the e90 does better and easier. Still poking the shift boot looking for the window switches tho. Old habits die hard I guess (had an e30 right before the e46).

Follow your heart. My 328 has 51000 miles on the odometer and drives like new --- engine pulls as strong as day one------she is perfect.

I love the N52! I would jump on this offer. Does it have the sports package?

Well, I own 2006 e90 330i and I love it but I do wish I had an e92 335i both are going to be out of warranty then the 330i is a bit more reliable. Test drive both and see what you like-----> 335i, twin turbo is crazy.

Get the 330i. 124K on mine with minimal headaches.Leave the HPFP and turbo woes for those who need the boost. Enjoy.

The guy drives a z06, I'm sure he loves the power.

It does not have the sport package (I wish it did but it still handles well), but does have premium and cold packages.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the extra power of the 335i, but the 330i feels very balanced and certainly "fast enough." It was wonderfully smooth and loved to rev (although so did the 335, something I have never experienced with a turbo.)

To be honest having spent some time in the Z06 neither one feels all that fast. They seem to be very balanced cars with more than enough power for anything anyone would want to do with them, and they handle better than anything with 4 doors ought to. As for being overly impressed with sheer speed, I guess the Corvette has ruined me. But then, the Corvette won't fit a new baby, so she's going

My main concern with the BMW is huge maintenance/repair bills, but it sounds like that might not be the case from the posts here.

Thanks to all for their input.

Mike

A BMW N/A engine should run 200k miles easily with minimal problems if maintained correctly. Mine has 59k and the only problem i've had is a failed rear sunshade -replaced under warranty. There is nothing too exotic or crazy unreliable about the 330, except maybe the electric water pump.

If you're a "driver," you're gonna want the sport package....

335i with a chip and you'll be running 12's all day. And you can have na mode when you want to take it easy with your little one on board...

I would've bought the 330i if it was direct injected and available as it is in europe!
