Yes you do need to call them and let them know about the wheels.
They may not terminate your policy, but changing insurers isn't exactly a big deal.

Yes - you should tell them of your "intent" to fit 19" wheels. They will ask you to write to them and provide the specs. From what I've found, unless the specs on these wheels are OEM they will decline your request and suggest you seek insurance elsewhere.
I wrote to BMW insurance regarding my mods - now insured with AAMI who were not concerned at all. Better safe than sorry! Welcome to e90post!

BMW insurance is underwritten by Allianz and my experiance with them as I mentioned in another post was that no matter how good a driver you have been, no matter how long you have been with them and no matter how many cars you have insurred with them, THEY WILL WIPE you. Better start looking to change now as since you have them fitted, in the event of an accident now, they might decline to repair your car. Can they legally do it --- You betcha!!

Hi
I call shannons insurance today. Asking about the insurance for the 335i that I have ordered. He asked me what car I was driving before, I replied a normal Lancer. He then asked if I own another car, I said no. He then put me on hold for about 5 mins. He than come back and say Shannons will not insure me, reason: I have never own a high power car before. I reckon this is crazy. Will try other company. Any suggestions? |

well i'm with shannons for my other BMW E36, it aint high performance car - just a crappy 1.8 M42 - heavily modified with eibach/bilstein suspension, supersprint muffer, CAI, xenon/CCFL angel eyes, M kits etc.
doubt i'm qualified as an enthusiast, though they offer me lifetime rating 1 protection plus free windscreen which is a big bonus! |

How the hell?
They said to me "sorry we can not insure you, as you are not already insured with us"!!! How on earth do you become insured with them!?
