Cited again~ Need advice
Ok so im driving down and I see a motocycle cop way infront just sitting there. I figured he was catching some speeders or something. As I pass by him, he looks directly at me and goes behind me. Next thing you know, the sirens turned on.
He busted me for No Front/Rear plates and Tinted windows. He also checked off "No" on if the ticket is fixable. I told him, i had my car for 3-4months, and thats why there is no DMV plates. He told me i had to have my DMV plates on at all times and told me to sign the ticket. I already knew i was going to get busted for the windows. Now my question is, How long can you go with dealer plates on? I always thought it was 6months before putting on the plates. Does someone have the link that states this? Second question, 3 years ago i was cited for tinted windows in my Lexus. The cop told me if it is a second offense, it is a moving violation. Does this apply to me even though i got my ticket back couple years ago for tinted windows in a different car? |

wow where did this happen? he must have been an A hole cop to check "no" for a fixable ticket. i still have my first court date due tomorrow morning after delaying it from this past dec. i've had my car since late oct of 07 and i just put on my rear plate last week. I haven't had any problems not having any plates around the south bay and san ramon area. I always thought it was 6 months too... at least that's what members of these forums have been saying. good luck man.

not sure how well that site would work for no plates and tint. Try to search the CVC for the plate thing. what a jacka** cop for not giving you a fixit ticket for the plates and tints. sooner or later you'll need to put them on, you might just well now. good luck...

wow, that blows... I have driven cars for over 4 years with my company plate on the car with no hassles. Tint on windows? not sure about NorCal, but here in So. Cal it's always a *fix it* ticket.

I just got the same ticket, but the officer was being "nice" and checked "fixable" for all violations. it sucks but its just something you're going to have to deal with.
my friend got out of his tint/no front plate tickets by extending them 3 times and then sending in a written declaration. after that length of time the cop usually will forget who he was dealing with/why he pulled them over and it will be dismissed. i'll just be slapping on some plates and taking off the tint to get it signed off, then put right back on on my way home. good luck.

i usually roll down my windows when i see a cop. not too worried on a sunny day but when theres overcast, my 35% tint looks really dark.

If I noticed a cop from a distance, I just look straight ahead and avoid eye contact at all times. I strongly believe cops feel like your punking them if you lock eyes with them. Since you and the cop did look at each other, he was probably more encouraged to give you a hard time and find something wrong with your car. I have a friend thats a SJPD, and he says most of the time they dont give tickets for no front plates or even dealer plates. Its not worth to give out fix it tickets, however I believe you made yourself a target because of your front tinted windows. If you continue to get pulled over for windows, I'd remove them. Why not drive with a peace of mind, rather than always on the look out for cops and then having to frantically roll your windows down when you see one? Good luck. |

My sunroof is tinted 5% so that won't help. I have 35% all around, but I try to open the sunroof completely and hope that helps. I haven;t had much trouble before, but I always try to avoid any possible contact with law enforcement. That's one reason I make sure to have a front plate. I was told by a cop that's a big thing with them, because of red light cameras.

i never got one but i thought they just cite you. you get it taken care of. have a cop sign it and just send in the fixed payment amount? or maybe it's only the same fee if you get a fix it ticket for a different thing each time. 3 fix it tickets for the very same thing might increase the fee?

The fee increases everytime you get it written off. They do keep track of it.
