Noise from the engine

There is a deep tone coming from the engine.
It is like something is blowing and creating a deep tone sound. On the video, the sound is obvious at 0:4, 0:8, 0:19 sec.
May I ask if anyone knows what is that? It is coming from the driver side in the engine bay.
Many thanks.

Does anything look slightly disconnected? Sounds almost like a sucking sound - could be a vacuum leak somewhere?? Hard to see anything in the dark :

Boost solenoids.

Check thread on here for a guy I found in Poland who sells pierburgs extremely cheap.

Also try loosening your oil cap during to see if it goes away (Bulletin # 11 03 11. It could be a crankshaft seal leaking. The symptom is a high pitched humming that goes away when you open the oil cap)

Thanks.
I found a thread from USA member having the same sound.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...oost+solenoids

May I ask if you have the link to the other guy that you mentioned?
Also, will it damage anything in my car if the boost solenoids are faulty?
I have to check vacuum line as well, wondering how to check these lines in the easiest way without acquiring lots of equipment.

If I have carly app and can show parameter, what parameter should I be looking and how can I tell if it's the boost solenoids?

Sorry for all the questions..

Boos solenoids have had a thousad revisions like the HPFP, best bet is to change them most guys notice a dramatic improvement in boost reponse and less noise.

Just replace all the vac line yourself, chances are its the original and needs replacing only costs about $20. VTL had a good source for it that was cheap.

As for the contact email this dude

May I ask if anyone knows how to replace the Boost solenoid?
I searched online but there isn't any DIY guide.

Its a bit fiddly, you need to remove vac canisters, and unbolt the reservoir on that side of the engine bay (coolant)

You will see each solenoid is held in place by two nuts, the trick is just to loosen the nuts not remove them and then slide the solenoid out. You'll have to try a few spanner/socket wrench combos by memory I used a 1/4" socket driver.

Pierburg is OEM - not sure if it's the latest revision or not but hopefully it is!

Can I assume it is ok to drive without damaging the engine if the boost solenoid is making that sound?
I am going to get vacuum lines from fcpeuro and want to change the lines and solenoid together which may take more than 2 weeks to come.

Shouldn't have any significant negative effects on the engine or turbos. If anything, the car will enter limp mode and the turbo wastegates will fail to the open position (ie no boost). This is to protect/ limit any damage to the turbos. I doubt it will get to that stage unless the boost solenoids completely fail.
