Need Advice, nail in runflat
so i took my car in to dealer today cause my tire pressure gauge has been on for two days and my local dealer, Crevier, told me i have a nail and and it would cost $500 for a new tire and labor to mount. The nail is not on my side wall, it is in the center tread of the rear passanger side. Any advice?

$500............run as far as you can from the dealer!
You can patch it up......people have done it. Fine someone else to do it.....

Patching up is not advised on many RFT's, but 500$ would make me run too. There are enough tire shops that will be able to fix the current tire, and order and mount you a new one within a week for less. I buy Dunlop SPSportMaxx tires for my Audi in 215x45x17, and they are about 140€ or 220 USD. Even with more expensive tires, I'm pretty sure you would be settled for less than 350 USD.

Everything should be ok as long as the wheel wasnt driven on at 0psi, some dont suggest it if you have gone under 2opsi. That and the placement of the punture is in the middle of the tire, SWEET!
REGARDLESS: Get it PATCHED as quickly as possible to ensure you dont run flat! and BMW actually patched my tire i had to sign for liability reasons and it only cost 5o bucks. I suggest you ask BMW first, the only reason i say that is because they arent going to patch your wheel if it shouldnt be done. If the dealership says no, take it to a discount tire and ask their opinion...ya never know, the dealership could be lookin to sell you a tire you didnt need. if both say NO, well...then get it replaced. I feel safer on my patched tire, knowing that BMW did it...based on that fact alone. Im guessing that they would rather sell me a tire instead of patching it...more money in their pockets! That, and if a BMW technician would have come out and said, you CANT drive on this tire, in fact...we wont LET you. I would have taken their word for it. There is "no" and then there is "there is no way" |

There are two problems with the dealership -- that they won't patch, and they they're completely boning you on the new tire.
When I had a nail puncture, I just went to one of the TireRack recommended installers in my area. I figured that way if they wouldn't/couldn't fix the puncture I could order a tire from the Rack and have it drop-shipped. Turned out the plugged it, patched it, and I was on my way. |

You can do it your self by buying a repair kit for 20 $. I have one in the car with a small compressor just in case I have a flat one day! when I'm traveling for long distances, I take with me one of my winter wheel for spare!

I had the same issue a few weeks ago- took it in for service, they found a nail in one tire and quoted me something like $450 for the tires only. I took it to a local tire shop and they repaired it for about $38. So far so good...

got my tire patched today and it feels fine but every time i go to reset the TPM it goes back to the red exclamation point. I am gonna test the psi in the morning but anybody have an idea what i am doing wrong or is there a specific way to reset the TPM besides hitting that reset button thing on the left side of my steering wheel?
