Heavy power steering...

My 320D E91 was rear ended a few weeks ago, and whilst being repaired, I was given an Octavia Diesel in it's place.

First impressions were a much poorer build quality and materials but I got used to it.

I did find the power steering overly light.

Now I've gotten my car back, I've found the power steering to be overly heavy. You do feel more, and there are no faults, and the tyre pressures are to spec, but, it does feel heavy.

Normal or something else?

Psychological I'll think you'll find, weight wise I drive Audi's VW's and alike I think they are all a little too light, slightly inert in fact, unless you get an RS4 which is a lot better, Merc's seem to be slightly lifeless around the straight ahead position and again are more relaxed when turning(they do seem to have a better turning circle), drive something like a Mazda then you can twirl these around all day long with your finger without too much drama yet come back to a BMW(thought the newer ones with their latest electric steering set ups)are a little lighter it would seem that the E series.

Your right to pick up on the steering feel, I personally prefer the more direct feel the BMW I have offers.

I got in my new 335d out of an Audi A3 and wow I thought it was like steering the car through custard it was so thick and slow. Now I've got used to it properly though I love it, so much more feel through the steering than VAG cars. They just feel so lifeless.

Your 335d has proper hydraulic power steering unlike the more typical electric power steering which is driven by a motor and makes you feel disconnected from the wheel.. because you are

As I mentioned bud, the 335s have hydraulic power steering which gives a much heavier weight..none of that over-assisted electric crap

My 320d is heavy coming from a VW cars. I dont know if its a issue or not. I suppose like all new BMW E90 owners is there anything to know or look out for so we dont worry think the power steering components are gone bad.
