damn it has to be the gas that these freaking stations are carrying....I guess having more ethanol in the contents make the gas for them cheaper to buy..

"best" has to be defined.
If you define "best" by :
How cool is it?
How many heads does it turn?
How sexy does it look?

Then yes, it's one of the best.

But if you define "best" by :
How likely is it to break down?
How likely is it to need maintenance?
How much bang for the buck (speed wise)?

Then no, it's far from the best.

Wastegate rattle will rob you of tons of power if it gets bad. And they don't have to fix until they deem it severe enough.

My issues : (@ 10.5k miles)
- Wastegate rattle (They told me to get lost when I took it in to get fixed)
- Random 'engine sputters out' while driving slowly or when on idle. (Just stops out of the blue)
- Air conditioning broke (only ever turned it on ~4 times, it hardly got a work out.)
- Lock system sometimes goes crazy. (I click shut/open, and it ignores me, or just does one door instead of both... totally random which door it chooses too. Fortunately it's rare and I only need to turn the car on/off to make it stop.)
- (*grumble* and got lied to about getting an oil cooler when I ordered the car *grumble*)

My old accord was over 190k miles before it had the FIRST problem where it had difficulty running... and it was fixed for under $100. (new ignition module).

My evo, I drove it like I was *trying* to kill it. I beat the shit out of that car... the wastegates were *perfect*. Actually, it never had a single problem.

The 335? I drove it like a granny for 3k miles (wouldn't go over 3k rpm). Then I drove it 'nice' till 6k miles (kepy it under 5k rpm). Not till 6k miles did I start to take the tach near redline. I put in fresh fully synthetic oil and new filter every 2k miles, just to do a clean 'flush'. It's been babied in every way possible. It shouldn't have a single mechanical problem.
And with only 10k miles, it shouldn't have *any* electrical problems.

My 335 does *not* scream reliability to me.
At this point, I am _expecting_ a HPFP failure before 30k miles.

Got mine a couple days ago too. Yes, at least they've fessed up about the issue, but will they resolve it anytime soon? Sounds like the new/revised HPFPs are just as bad.

I haven't had any HPFP issues yet and I'm about to hit 35K miles, but I know what it feels like to be one of the few affected by such an issue. I remember going through all the crap with my Acura CL and it's multiple transmissions. I went through 5 or 6, I don't remember exactly at this point but it was one of the two. They were ticking time bombs with the warranty also extended to 100K miles. Towards the end it just became a known wear and tear item to me that would have to be replaced about every 12K miles along with my tires...very sad. And yes, the warranty was extended to 100K miles no matter which revised/updated tranny you got...and there were numerous updates apparently.

Now that I think about it, getting the run around from BMW in regards to the well known wastegate rattling issue has also been a pain in the ass. It took three dealer visits for them to finally acknowledge that it was an issue and then after having my car for a couple days and updating the software and replacing the wastegates they just went ahead and peformed the DIY fix posted on this forum.

Got mine letter yesterday and to think I have read soooo many posts about people going to the dealer and they just gave them the run around, blaming bad gas etc and sepending $$$$ to try to fix the problem....If I were you i would take that letter and shove it up your service advisors @ss.

You're not kidding....my friend in the tri-state area just took his M3 in for long cranks! I don't think it even has a HPFP does it?

I got my letter 2 days ago. I was getting the long crank when I switched to Costco gas (saved about $.20/ gal over 76 gas). Dealer in Pacific BMW couldn't replicate it. I switched back to 76 and the long crank symptoms went away after several 76 gas fillups.

I got my letter yesterday. You know the problem with mine??? It does not identify a specific VIN# to which the warranty attaches. So it is a generic letter which arguably might not bind BMW to anything.

probably not... most of the people who have gotten letters are original owners... Not CPO owners... WE are still covered by the 10yr/120k protection, but we wont get letters in the mail... (even if bmw was the original owner, and your the 2nd owner)

the only instance where you would not receive a letter is if you purchased the car via a private party, or some place like CarMax.....

if you did do the above, and have not received a letter yet, (and you've owned the car for some time..), you may want to get your records updated through BMW Customer Service.

i believe this is the contact number:

800 831-1117

pretty sure they can help

Thanks,

Hopefully I'll have an new ride by time my warranty is up, but it is still a cool deal for the next owner.
