You can buy a module to bypass the sensor. This means that the air bag will always be on.

Like he said. I bought one off eBay for 70 shipped. Quick install, just need a shop to reset the light and you're golden.

You cannot get the dealer replace it for you under the manufacturer defect warranty? It happened on mine 2006 E90 and I called BMW North American to get a letter for the dealer to replace it under the warranty.

I had my 2002 airbag replaced but not the tensioner. And that was wrong. On SRS light. Airbag part of recall. I had them check my e92 no recall on that one. So I thought maybe not airbag but the sensor. So took it to different dealer and they ran my car for recalls none
Came up.
I will

My 2006 E90 was not on the recall list originally and I contacted BMW NA after dealership diagnostic and confirmed a occupancy sensor failure to acquire a letter (I complained this should be covered for safety concern) and brought back to the dealership to replace it under the warranty.
I was told to refund for the diagnostic cost but I never received from the dealership after few calls. However, it is still cheaper than paying to get the sensor replace.

You should direct the sales manager (not the SA) to NHTSA website. Model Year 2007 is included.
