Retro-fit DAB

From a previous thread I recall that there are some who are looking for the above.
Pure have just launched a hard-wired DAB tuner, anyone interested check here: http://www.whathifi.com/news/pure-la...e-installation

I don't think that this is the way forward, from what I understand the car's std aerial is fine for DAB so it will be cheaper, easier and allow you to keep using the std steering wheel's controls to replace the head unit with a DAB ready item.
With the impending FM switch off DAB will be having a lot of future interest.

Granted, that antenna looks like a bit of an afterthought and not a pretty one at that. However, the folks at Pure know a thing or two about radio and, were it as easy as you suggest, I'm sure they'd have found a way to utilise the existing aerial.
There's also a matter of cost and, at £180 including fitting, it's barely more than half the price of the OEM option.

That Pure device does have the option of using the std aerial, the bigger problem is it's stuck on appearance and lack of steering wheel controls.

You need a special splitter and loom apparently to use the standard aerial for DAB

My concern would be letting a spotty, untrained Halfords Saturday boy lose on my car's interior!
