If towing and what not LR Disco / Defender is the only way to go, none of these blinged out 4X4s

My local Volvo dealer is also the Lotus dealer.... I did have a crazy thought of driving in with the M3 and swapping it for an XC90 and an Exige all in one fair swoop... but I need to try and be sensible, get the everyday car sorted, then probably wait till Winter to by the weekend toy when prices take a slump. I think to get the weekend car passed the missus, it may have to be a softer option than the Exige, so she can use it too. So S2000 or similar would work... and still be OK for me too. |

What about the old shape X5's ?
Starting to look a bit old now, but you get a lot of car for your money... Plenty would be left for the weekend hack... 4.8is or mapped 3.0d fully loaded... Hmmmmmm |

Owned a Disco 3 TDV6 in the past, nice but a little agricultural. Have a look at a GL, they are huge and have masses of presence and are a real bargain used and new (currently an £11K dealer finance deposit contribution on a new GL320).

I went to two stealers yesterday. BMW and Land Rover. Tried a 3.0d SE (only one they had), it was very good. Pros: felt well made, drove just like a soft 5 series, averaged 31mpg, pretty nippy Cons: not very exciting, same interior as the last two cars I've had. Then took a RRS TDV8 out for a spin. Pros: felt a special place to be driving it, unexpected ride and handling... I was expecting a barge! Went well considering its 2700kg! Cons: not sure about reliability, 24mpg on same test route/time I'm going to go and drive a Toureg, ML & XC90 to compare, but at the moment my head says X5 and my heart says RRS. P |
