Request DIY: Rear Emblems ex 330xi Emblem

Can someone please put a DIY for removing and installing different Rear Emblems such as 330xi on the back of the car?

trying searching. people use dental floss to debadge the car. heat the area up a bit with a hairdryer then use dental floss to remove the numbers.

floss or fishing line, gently slice through, i didnt heat up, didnt do that on my previous car either, then pick off the rest of adhesive, i then detail spray to remove the dust, then clayed, then used paint cleaner, then polished, and finally waxed

Hey I'm thinking of debadging. Are you sure this removal method works?

My method is the really anal type A person method, LOL, yes it works, I did it last weekend and also to my E36 a few years back. Floss or fishing line both work, 8 lb test should be perfect (strength and diameter wise), I would just grab whatever is closest, doesnt matter.

If you are replacing an emblem, I would clay the area as it removes all bonded gunk + wax, stick on emblem, wax remaining exposed areas that were clayed.

I always wondering about ppl placing emblems, Ive seen some placed really high up, totally funny looking to me, i guess you could use blue painters tape and use that to line up ur emblems, use it kinda like a ruler

thats what I did for my shadow emblems.

just mark off the top line and left side of each number as you remove each one.

ended up with something like this

___________
.|3 .3 .0 .x .i

___________
.| .|3 .0 .x .i

___________
.| .| .|0 .x .i

___________
.| .| .| .|x .i

___________
.| .| .| .| |i

___________
.| .| .| .| .|

then as I put them on, I just had to use the top left corner and they all were back in the same spot like this.

___________
|3 |3 |0 |x |i

then remove tape and your done.

does bug and tar remover help get rid of the excess adhesive or will it just scratch my car?

i dont think that stuff scratches you car, I've heard about goo gone, but all I did was sit there and peel with my fingers, I got entire letters of adhesives to come off with very little residue. Excess residue was removed by claying and stubborn spots I pwned with some paint cleaner . Minor scratches can be taken care of by paint cleaner and polish.

i used goo gone and it worked well.

just dont let the excess stuff sit on your car for too long, wash your ride later that day or next morning (dont do it too soon cuz you want the 3m tape to cure and stick 1st)

if you do it my way you don't gotta worry about that (but if you have tons of residual sticky gunk you might wanna use goo gone). Otherwise your normal car detailing supplies will do fine.

i did the same thing you did... i just used the goo gone on it after i got the emblem off to make sure all the crud came off too, then i washed down that area with water, dried it and stuck the new one on.

Again thanks for the tip about using a Floss to take out the emblem. That was so easy. And instead of the goo gone, i got cheap and used my old bottle of Bug and Tar remover and it worked out just fine. No scratch and just alittle elbow grease (not too hard) and the sticky residue is gone. And it didnt even hurt the paint.

They are so cheap to get off the web... Just order them at JleviSW or Bimmian (or any other vendors!)

Mine cost me roughly $25 and the paint quality is much better than what I would have come up with!
