Cool Calling All Member With Catless Downpipes!

So picked up a set of VRSF catless DPs from a forum member here and had them installed by Rocco over at RMP. Started up the car and everything seems to run smooth except for the fact that theres a lot of vibration on idle. No misfires and the vibration is not excessive but its definately noticeable. I can't hear any leaks, and no rattling or anything on acceleration. The vibration seems to lessen after the car warms up a bit but doesn't resolve. Gonna take it back to RMP later next week but I'm wondering if anyone has any advise. Also the O2 sensors seem to be okay. Searched up previous posts but cant really find an answer.

BTW I have 2007 e92 BMW 335i. Cobb Stage 2 Aggressive. Performance exhuast. BMS DCI. ER CP with HKS SSQV4 BOV.

Thanks in advance guys.

No rattle, just vibration? I'm guessing you already checked for codes?
Try resetting your adaptations with the Cobb AP, see if that helps. If the O2 sensors were switched by mistake, you''d get misfires and codes right away. Hopefully they werent damaged during the install...

Okay ill try that. Thanks man. Yea I hope not. Its not a really rough idle like youd expect from switched O2 sensors..and the rpm are wavering at all. I almost suspect a leak.

Hey dude,

Your vibration may simply be because of the lack of backpressure at warm-up. I know this may sound a little crazy, but when I had them on the car always vibrated for the first 60s and as soon as valve opened it was warm and cmooth sailing from there.

If you do notice a little bit of rattle it's because the open(cattless) DP's will amplify the tiniest bit of WG rattle. When you up the boost you'll always have a bit of rattle even if your WG are perfect.

I wonder if the gasket was installed properly and possibly cracked? Put some km's on it and let us know!

Thanks for the input bro. I had new gaskets put on with install so I dont think theyre cracked. But maybe theres a leak. I guess Ill find out when the car is on the hoist.

looking for some DP's, where is the best place to buy them? and what if any are the concerns of install? I already have DCI and JB4 installed. Sorry not trying to highjack your thread.

No problem man. A good place to pick up downpipes is either used from forum members or mike@n54tuning.com. he has pretty good prices from what Ive seen. The only concerb I would say is noise. Your car exhaust note gets louder and you can head the turbos spool up inside the car. Plus its a really tight space to work in so if youre gonna do it yourself youre gonna have a heck of a time. Theres also a smell associated with having cats deleted.

Man its loud! Not too bad on idle in my opinion but when you open up the throttle it growls. I park my car at the end of the driveway so I dont bother my next door neighbors during cold startup. Dr G was right about it being raspy. However, I kinda like the sound and the rasp is tolerable for me. Im debating if ill throw in some resonators or not. Your welcome to meet up and listen to the car. I know your in the west end but at least youll have an idea in person how it sounds

Is there any sense in putting catless downpipes on a stock 335i?

Any gains?

Does it pass emissions test?

Lol is this serious question wolf?

Cattless will open up 20-30whp on a FBO car. You'll automatically feel the difference and you can run higher boost. Much more efficiency and responsive.

Take the plunge, you can't go wrong. As for passing emissions, I've heard of guys passing (barely) with keeping on their secondary cats.

Otherwise put on OEM catts, reset adaption and run it for a little bit and then Test.

Drive clean ontario has switched from the sniffer to an obd II scanner. So you should be able to just install the bms o2 srnsor fix and you should be good!

How would you say the "note" of the exhaust is different now that you've paired the Catless DP's with the PE? From my research most say it changes it and not for the better...it looses the high end note near the higher rpm's with the PE. Was it for the better or worst in your opinion?

This is the only thing really holding me back from getting some DP's, aside from the actual noise level since I find my PE already close to as loud as I'd want my car to be.

Plus, to deal with the rasp/drone, some people say resonators is the answer. So wouldn't getting the AR Catless resonated DP's, as an example, solve this issues without getting the DP's and resonators separately?

If someone can help answer some of these questions I'd greatly appreciate it!

I've asked this question to someone who had the AR resonated downpipes. Those resonators are simply too small to eliminate the 5.5k+ rpm rasp with PE. Underfloor resonators appear to be the only way

So with the new drive clean test, will the DP fix solve the emission problem with the catless DP??

I have a XI there's no catted DP available for my car....

also, anyone here installed the DP with stock exhaust???

AR resonated are a rare breed and I have never heard a set in person and I usually don't like to go off what people on forums say so I'm not sure about them, but for the price you would pay for them it seems easier to just put the resonators into the midpipes.

Some people don't mind the rasp and some, like myself, hate it. When the car is fully warmed up in summer it's not all that raspy though, in the winter it's a whole new story haha. I would just get regular catless and see how it is and if you don't like the rasp the resonators area quick fix. The rasp comes in the upper rpm's, when giving part throttle at WOT I've noticed the car just flies through rpm's you don't notice the rasp as much.

The PE does sound MEAN and pops and gurgles a lot catless. With the cold temps as of late I'm firing off shotgun sounds every time I let off the accelerator. When you give the car a bit of throttle from a standstill it has a nice deep grunt as well.
