From 159's to 162's what else do I need to think about?
Hi all,
I'm new to the switching rims and tires thing. This morning, I replaced my 159's with 162's on my non-sport package 330i. They look great, but just want to check in with you experts on the suspension portion. Since the tires are bigger are there any adjustments I need to make to how it sits like camber or anything? And what exactly are spacers for, is that just to change how far in or out the tire sits in the wheel well? Sorry I don't know technical terms for anything, it's all new to me. I don't have plans to change my shocks or springs so please keep the recommendations applicable to the stock non-sport suspension. Thanks for your help

its plus one....159-->162s, the overall rolling diameter should be just about the same. Your suspension settings is fine.
Spacers are as their name suggests. They push out the wheels a little more in relative to the hub.

The tires on your 18" have a lower profile, so overall diameter is not changed much.
You will be fine. I switch from 162's to 158's for summer/winter. No worries. I have 10mm spacers on the rear, but it is really just cosmetic. I would not recommend for you considing that your car does not have ZSP. |

Even going from the OEM 18" 162s to the Morr 19" 162s using 265/30R19's only results in a 1/8 inch vehicle rise vs stock. And no need for spacers as the offset is perfect.

Thanks Magna3. Glad I made the switch. First upgrade I've ever made to any of my cars. EVER. Thanks for your guidance.

rpiopio,
I am a week behind you with the same story. Just bought a set of 162's last weekend from a fellow forum member, and am installing on my E90 330i this weekend. I will keep the original 159's for light winter use. My car has about 1,500 miles (I hardly use it), and the rims/tires I bought have about 2k miles on them. I am not making any changes to my suspension, or putting spacers. This is my first rim change on a car as well....story pretty much parallels yours. According to the tire calculator on this website and others, as you probably know, this change is extremely minor: The stock 162 front tires are only 0.11" taller than the stock 159 set up, a 0.44% increase. The rear 162 tires are only 0.05" taller than the 159's, a 0.20% increase. i.e., negligible, and I would thinik less than changes in tire size due to tire wear, tire pressure drops, etc. Good luck. I can't wait to throw mine on later this week as soon as I get home from this damn business trip! P.S. - you gonna add your "mod" to your signature?

Can u post some pics of the car with the 162s on? I just wanted to see how it looks on a non-sport pkg car as I have a 328i non-sport and am thinking of getting some 18s. I will really appreciate if you can do that. Thanks

I did it too. I thought about other aftermarket wheels but always liked the 162's. I put them on after buying from e90phan. They look great, I can't tell a difference comparing a 162 on a ZSP to a 162 on a non ZSP.
Before the usual It is snowing, otherwise I would take some and post some pics. |

hold up... the 162with rfts were physically a lot heavier.. than my 159s with no-rfts... Now, i do notice the difference when i ride.. i do feel heavier, smoother (strangely),... i really wanna put some non-rft's on...
