Run Flat Tires: how long did your 17" tires last?

I am thinking about buying a Bimmer am wondering about the longevity of the RFTs. Please state OE tire size, brand and mileage before became bold. If you changed to non-RTF also please tell the pros and cons of each.

I had 18" ps2 run flats. After 18,000 miles, I had bubbles forming on the sidewall. My recommendation is to just get non runflats. I've been running on michelin super sports for the last 4000 miles and they have just been great. The runflats feel like rocks compared to non and the grip has been phenomenal both in autocross and in normal weather conditions. Throw a compressor, a can of fix a flat, and a plug kit in the trunk in case of a flat.

I had 17" OEM run flat for 50k miles before the first replacement. The car is now over 100k and still on OEM break pad/rotor.

Which brand did the OE come with? Did you have to rotate the tires to get so many miles out of them?

My first set on E90 lasted 24K miles Bridgestone RE050 RFT.

Bridgestone RE050 RFT. At 27,400 miles, the fronts are almost to the point of replacement. Figure I'll probably replace them at 30,000 miles. As for the rears, the treadlife is still good. May last close to 40,000 miles.

I have 18' wheels, my run flat tires lasted about 20,000 miles. I don't race it on tracks; but have been known to drive spiritedly from time to time

I had Conti DWS on my e46. I'd say they were about the same as my run flats now in terms of road noise. Is the difference that dramatic from switching to non run flats?

I had little over 21000 miles. Got 3 flats in last 40 days or so.. got 3 new tires under the tire warranty. Thank god I had the warranty.

My 2011 328i Wagon (Sport Package, staggered 17 wheels) came with Bridgestone RE050 II RFTs. They lasted exactly 30K miles; I should have changed them at 25K. When I changed the tires to Michelin Primacy HP (W Rated), the steel belts in the rear were showing and the tires made a horrible howling sound.

'07 sedan, sport pack with staggered 225 / 255. Went through the runflats after 31k; fronts were nearly bald.
Replaced with non-runflats (Sumitomo HTR-Z3). Got 42k miles out of them and probably retired them 2-3k early. Improved the ride tremendously.
Next set were Conti DWs. Even more improvement, particularly quieter than both previous tires. Have 26k on them and they have plenty of tread left. Fronts look like they're less than 1/2 done, rears are a little worse.
Non-runflats weight a lot less than runflats and you might see some gas mileage improvement. Only downside for me is the emergency flat issue. Here in Florida the roads are pretty smooth and we don't carry winter survival kits so going without runflats doesn't seem like a big deal.

Had Bridgestone RFT and rotated every ~10k. mild driving on them.

I have 48,200 miles on my car, as far as I know it has the same Bridgestone Turanza EL42 RFT that it came with from the factory, and they still have good life left on them.

74K ml - 3 rd 'pair' of wheels.
Original (replaced by warranty all 4 at 7K) and next was Bridgestone (replaced at 37K) with Continental.

So far 27,000 miles on OEM 18" Michelin RFT. No excessive wear and probably got another 10k of life. I'm a spirited driver and take corners a little faster and harder. I don't like the noise generated by the RFT and may try non-RFT when I replace.

+1000 lot of people are against it but it saved me a grand at least

I almost didnt purchase it. Its already paid for its self now and I still have one year left to go with my car.

Same here. Good thing it also covers the wheels. My friend had a bent rim after hitting a pothole.. everything got replaces. with my last claim they did charge me 11$ for some sort of valves.
