Two things no one has stated in several pages of responses:

Doesn't anyone consider that they would have stolen more items but perhaps they got spooked by something or someone? Maybe they had a spotter and left before they could get everything they wanted.

On the insurance fraud note, I guess that could be plausible, but don't you think running into a guardrail at a low speed would suffice as well? Seems like a lot of trouble doing it this way although I'm sure some people would be willing to do it to look unique. Who knows, but I'm guessing that's not what happened here.

Seems like writing speeding tickets is all they have time for these days...

Not much time left for those crimes that have actual victims.

probably a BMW master tech did this. he/she knows exactly what they are looking for, how to get it and where they can find it. and from the looks of it, everything that was taken can be sold here on the forums. which people do buy very often.

Sorry to hear that man. I don't understand why everyone is saying its fraud. Why would the OP want to put it out on the internet if it was anyway? Good luck either way bro.

3. The shift knob is still there.

4. The cluster is still there.

5. The ebrake knob, still there.

6. The center console idrive knob, still there.

7. Glove box..not opened.

8. Where are the wiring harnesses for the headlight? Did they cut them inside of the engine bay?

9. It takes me about an hour to get out the damn airbox...yet they removed it, without removing the upper cowl AND all clamps? lol WAT?

10. Steering wheel paddle shifters -- there's one nut holding the wheel on...

11.The grilles? Why'd they leave the grilles on the front bumper??

12. Looks like the front bumper wasn't ripped off -- why would they rip off the door and then unscrew the front bumper and the splash guard...

13. Doesn't even look like they looked in the center console...

14. Visors? did they snatch that?

Also looks like theres not many fingerprints anywhere...

A professional wouldn't touch that car..they would flatbed it and junk it.

Just my .02

Also theres a window right there...right next to the tree. I'm POSITIVE unless you're high on meth that you'd hear anything going on outside those windows.
this. you nailed it.

if OP lives anywhere near a main street even at night there is variable street noise... What's odd is that the thieves are not informed on how to maximize their risk vs reward. As pointed by several members here the thieves failed to acquire high price items that would take far less time and worth a great sum... like trim, front seats, cluster...

their level of effort was not five hours... if not OP would have caught them... a theive would never risk getting caught even in the darkest of night... a team of 3 or 5 would risk a maximum of a two hour window... why... its psychology a sound comfort number where the mind falsely concludes it to be so... the time assumed people will stay asleep without noticing external intrusions of sound

hence why this case is very interesting...

it takes a while to get the bumper off and get the headlights out (which are mounted in baskets behind the bumper). it's a big pain in the butt with good lighting, let alone in the dark.

I'm also surprised they went through all that trouble (and time) to take the headlights, but didn't bother to take the front seats which come out pretty easily.

What fits better in a backpack-Your expensive xenon headlamps, or a car seat? Makes perfect sense to me.

Getting shot is not interesting to the person that got shot or the person that got his E92 butt fu@ked and raped.

Me too bro. I'm also surprised they didn't take the engine block and all of the wheels. That transmission line is probably worth a lot too.

DAMNNNNNN! The people who did it had to know more than the average joe about an e90 and it's workings. I know it wouldve taken me like 30 mins just to take off 1 headlight on my own car...

Whats the average income of this area? Man... Sounds like it's time for movin' on up, to the east side. To a deluxe apartment in the sky. You need to move on up to the east side. To finally get a piece of the pie.

I could see this being done by somebody trying to fix up a damaged car. They appear to have taken very specific stuff (headlights, airbag, etc) that you would need to replace if you were repairing an e92 after a minor collision. Might explain the familiarity with the car and knowledge of how to remove the specific components they want. If they just wanted to make money, they could've gone for more stuff. It seems like they had a specific shopping list. Things like tail lights, wheels, etc would be good money makers too but they weren't taken.
