335d best way to accelerate

Hi guys ... Out of interest whats the best / fastest way of getting the 335d moving?? Im finding with mine its a bit sluggish at getting off the lights and would like some advice?? So far ive tried plating my foot down in sport mode, pulling away in 2nd , turning off traction control ect but still the same results. Ive been told to keep my foot on the brake and accelerate hard then dump off the brake ( as if it were a clutch ) but what do you guys think??

Im only interested as its my first time on a drag strip next month and would like the best results!!!

Thanks

I like to use the skinny pedal.

...but seriously, best launch for this car (sans modifications as alluded to by Greek in his link to a LSD thread) is to put it in second gear, brake boost to about 2k and let off the brake, modulating throttle for traction. After that, your shifts are about at 4k rpm. If she's a slouch off the line, there's something wrong.

Phase 1: Buy a JBD or other tune
Phase 2: ????
Phase 3: Profit

But yea, I found brake boosting at 2-2.3k RPM with TC fully off, and gradually increase throttle until you feel traction breakage isn't an issue. Takes a little bit of practice to launch this car without making a 20ft 11

The 4k RPM shift point is pretty good to use, even after a tune. This car just doesn't like going past 4300rpm.

I guess most may have noticed that some of the hyperlinks won't work with mobile devices, at least that's my experience with the iPood-type devices.

I got the dtuk pedal box fitted on mine.you can adjust the throttle response with this and feels so much more responsive.cost about £170 for the pedal box.

I always see mixed reviews about this product. Pretty damn pricey too. Anyone else using it?

In the UK you can get them for £180 brand new. Pricey but well worth it once you have it. I had one on my BMW 318i Manual and it made the car feel/drive a lot better. no lag points. getting one for my 335d in about 3 weeks when I get my wrap and body work done. Check out my thread! current mods uploaded and loads more to come!

they get mixed reviews because they basically do the same thing your foot does just on a different scale. It feels more snappy and responsive because you thought you gave it 25% throttle but the sprint translates that to 40% throttle. Kind of like how your car would feel really snappy and fast if you went to press the brake and accidentally smashed the throttle instead.

Wow, that confident in the product huh? I might have to put it on the top of my mod priority list now. Windshield ceramic tint and painted calipers might have to wait!

My method for a fast get away, traction completely off. Use 1st gear in manual, light throttle to about 2k with foot on brake. At the off Foot off brake, full throttle and as soon as car starts moving hit the gear change, by the time the gear changes it hits about 3.5 k which when it goes into 2nd you are now at peak torque. 2-3rd again change at about 3.5.. The rest you can go flat to 4k.

Try brake torquing in second gear at 2k rpm. works much better. why waste time with a shift? the computer cuts torque in first gear anyways.

you are torque limited in 2nd too .. you are also gonna burn the crap out of your gearbox fluid by producing rather a lot of heat when you've got one foot on the brake and the other buried in the carpet

2nd gear brake boost launches are fine for the tranny, as long as you arent doing it from every stoplight. If the tranny fluid burned from the occasional brake boost, BMW would have constantly failing trannies from people driving in stop and go traffic. If youre doing a lot of racing though you should be changing your fluid more frequently, im pretty sure that semi frequent brake boosting falls well into the heavy duty use column where the recommendation is changing fluid every 30k.

Oh, and 2nd gear brake boosted launches are undoubtedly faster. If anyone gets better results in 1st its because they arent brake boosting enough or are too easy on the throttle pulling out, based on my experiences with launching this car and hundreds of 1/4 mile passes in other cars
