What information do I need to know to get proper wheel pressure transducers?
Is there any issues with getting aftermarket TPMS sensors, or is there any advantages to the OEM sensors?
I purchased a set of identical wheels to my own for a set of winter tires that included TPMS sensors, I was told the TPMS pressure sensors were the correct units to interface with my vehical, through testing I don't believe this is true. I have done the sync procedure, and they do not take, but the old wheels will resync, so I think I am doing it properly. Do all 4 sensors need to be working to sync? Or would < 4 still be acknowledged by the system? I would like to purchase a known good used set, or a new set but what do I use as a benchmark to make sure I have the correct sensors so i don't end up in the same position? |

BMW has used two types of TPMS sensors, changing from one system to another incompatible system in MY2011, so year and actual production date matter to determine which side of the changeover your car falls.

2008, would that still need to have the actual manufactured date to determine which system is used?
Is there some series/part numbers or colloquial term used to describe which type is used in the diferent systems? Do these "incorrect" sensors I have in my posesion have enough value that people will want them, and or perhaps if the right person were found, could simply trade out units? And is there a way to definitively determine which units I currently have that operate correctly, as well as the second set of TPMS sensors I have that seem incompatible? I dug into this a bit on realOEM since I'm considering a second set of wheels for my Z4 to run winter tires. According to realOEM there is a E90 non-LCI production model for 2008 and a E90 LCI production model for 2008. Regardless they both use the same TPMS pressure sensor. Below is what I found. You probably should go on RealOEM and put your VIN in and see what comes up. You find the TPMS part numbers in the wheels section. It looks like the unit with P/N 36106790054 is the outlier here and was in production from 9/2009 through 6/13/13 (which may be the production end date of the E90 chassis). Hope it helps.
Also, maybe you need to go to the dealer Hate to say to figure it out, or just buy the BMW OE parts...

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

As I said before, the changover in TPMS sensor type was in Model Year 2011. If you do not have a 2011 car, therefore you need not worry....simply use the TPMS which is listed for all 2008 E90s.
