Oil filler cap removed... knocking noise??
I've got an 330i (N53) and I've been doing a bit of DIY diagnosis on some possible issues I may have and one of them involved removing the oil filler cap while the car is idling. As soon as I removed the cap I could hear a knocking sound coming from the hole. Replacing the oil cap stops the knocking noise, or at least blocks the sound so I can't hear it.
Is this normal?? Anyone fancy trying it with their car to see if they get the same knocking noise?? Until now I can't say I've ever removed an oil cap while the engine is running so I'm not sure what I should be hearing. |

It's normal. The valvetrain of an internal combustion engine is a noisy place.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
