Cost for Oil Catch Installation?

Looking into an Oil Catch install. Don't want to do it myself so probably dealer or indy. BMS seems to be the preferred model and BavAuto estimates install at 20 min. Any thoughts or experience out there? Thanks

I'm about to tackle this job as well. It wasn't until I read the instructions that I found out about PCV having to be removed and split into two parts. I had a spare one laying around and tried splitting it using heat but it wouldn't budge. I ended up splitting it open and it's now trash. Installation is going to be some what of a pain.

Heat gun and a small flat screw driver....

Insert small screw driver on the edge and use it to slowly push its way in (tip of screwdriver only)

Then do the same around the hose while the heat gun is softening the plastic

Once you feel movement just pull the hose from flapper connecter by hand

a mechanic would charge $50 to do it, won't take more than 30 minutes

Very easy instal, save your money!

I just used a heat gun at 260*ish for 15 sec...twisted and pulled in 1 move. Don't get frustrated with the square connector end and you'll be just fine

Should a hair dryer work? I'm not sure if I was doing it wrong before but that's what I used without any luck.

Yea it should, just needs a little more time I'm sure. The plastic was just hot enough to the touch without burning if you can picture how that feels...a little pull force but nothing over the top and you'll get it

You would pay someone to install an OCC? I hope you don't go around calling yourself a man...

I used a hair dryer to do this last weekend. About 15secs,man up, twist and pull. Install was simple. You have to twist to break the seal from sitting on there so long.

Good estimate. I installed this part on my car tonight (FINALLY) and it took me 45 minutes with putting everything back together. It was really easy. Thanks guys!

man I love helping start DIY their bmw... saves them more $$$.. and you'll eventually do it better than your mechanic putting cheap aftermarket crap on your bmw..lol

I used a hair dryer. Its not hard at all. You should be able to have the whole thing completed in no more then a half hour

I don't get the whole hair dryer thing. Mine just came apart, no big deal.

I just need to do the M3 cowl retrofit so it's easier to access the drain without having to remove the cowl each time.

regarding draining...

i went with a hybrid solution to keep maintenance easy...

got bms cowl filters.

http://burgertuning.com/cowl_filter_...w_135_335.html

but i left the bottom plastic drain gutter where your original cabin filters attach too... this way water routed correctly... you get noise dampening.... but maintenance wise its just alot easier to access the catch can to drain it... its alot easier to access your engine to diy period...

i'll try to shoot a little video to explain it better... picture worth a thousand words..

Hey brother!!

You're the single solitary reason I know longer fear going under the hood- even if I don't do anything major anytime soon.

I'm able to remove and install a BMS intake with my hand tied behind my back and blindfolded, and also perform an installation of an OCC, among other things- all because you opened your heart and your generosity to a then complete stranger.

Now I'm a good friend. I said it before, and I'll say it again- at the risk of embarrassing you on this forum @fazman - you're just an awesome human being.
