BMW is apparently aware of some issues with their DVD drives. My 2008 M3 worked fine for a few years but then started to have issues reading my burned DVDs, then also the original DVDs. Took it to BMW and they replaced the DVD drive under warranty. The parts manager told me that I was getting a new and improved model, that they had replaced tons of the older model drives. The new drive reads my burned map DVDs just fine, in fact I'm using the 2012 ones with cams as was posted in this thread this spring with no issues at all.
So if you are having issues with your DVD drive, might be worth while getting it replaced with the new model... |

Yea that's normal... DVD's are plastic they warp easily... so don't leave your car under the sun... the OEM DVDs has the label coating on top that's why it is not affected much... but our DIY burn has no protection, not unless you put a sticker label on top of it... just avoid leaving your car under the sun...

HOW TO SWITCH YOUR OLD DVD WITH A NEW DVD PROPERLY:
- First bring your car out in an open area (no obstruction above) - While your car is running (i mean while the engine is running) eject the old DVD, after that it should say “please insert dvd”... - Insert new DVD into your drive as instructed and it should say (NEW DVD VERSION. PLEASE SHUT DOWN SYSTEM AND RESTART AFTER 5 MINUTES)... make sure you shut down your sustem, leave your car and take the keys with you for 5 minutes) - After 5 minutes get back to your car and restart your engine... your NAV should bootup automatically - If you are in the Eastern Region, you should be using the EASTERN DISC... If you insert the Western Disc it will bootup but it will not show you any map or direction... It will show you an empty screen with just the sky on the very top... Likewise If you are in the Western Region do not expect the Eastern Disc to show you map and direction... WHERE TO: - SELECT NAVIGATION - SELECT INFORMATION - SELECT “ON LOCATION” OR “ON DESTINATION” - SELECT CARS & TRAVEL - SELECT “RED LIGHT SPEED CAM” OR “POLICE SPEED TRAPS” - AND ON THIS AREA YOU CAN FIND OTHER INFO YOU WANT TO FIND... (TESTED A SET OF MY DVD'S TODAY 8/10/2012 AT 7:00AM LOS ANGELES AREA) Last edited by crzylildude; 08-10-2012 at 10:37 AM.. |

Please help! I burned the 2012 Nav DVD and inserted into the system.
It still says insert Nav DVD and it wont eject. I tried doing to volume + both eject buttons. That didn't work. Is there any alternative to get the Nav DVD out? I have a 2006 330xi. Thanks for the torrents |

DVD eject
Most all DVD drives have a manual eject button ( pin hole ) on the front plate. But most likely it is behind the BMW face plate. A paperclip will do the trick.

Thanks for this guys, will seed for a few months if not longer. Mine worked perfect to.
Only thing I don't like about this update compared the 2009 ones I was running is that on the secondary screen when you have it on current location it doesn't show what street your on now I liked that feature. |

I am having a problem getting mine to work. I got it downloaded and burned (tried three different time at three different speeds, 2x, 4x, 6x) and installed the disc. I never get the "New DVD version" message. Sometimes, it works and goes straight to the map, loading VERY slowly.. map, then streets, then eventually street names.. and it gets hung up when i try to zoom in or out. Then after about 10 min, it locks up and I get a dvd error message. Other times, I put it in, and it still says "insert a navigation dvd".
Any ideas? |

Yeah, my car has been on and off for the past week, and the DVD put in and out. No luck. It could just be the disc... I will try one more time with a new one, and then i will just pay someone for it.
