New Double Din head unit face plate.

Hello guys,

So i'v seen this face plate has been out recently https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...k_ql_qh_dp_hza

Just wondering if anyone on here has it and can show how the fit and finish it. Thinking about pairing it up with a Sony Double Din head unit.

I have one and I think it's pretty good. If installed carefully it looks like it belongs there. I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Be sure to post up pics. I'm mostly focused on how the fit and finish and plus these double din head units come with Andriod Auto whereas Dynavin N7 has the best factory look to it but it doesn't have Android Auto.

Here you go. These aren't the greatest pics, but they should do. Sorry about the fingerprints! I showed a closeup so you can see that the adapter extends slightly below the dash panel (I think they all do) but it really isn't noticeable in use. I looked at equivalents from Metra and from Connects2, but I think this one is better.

did you trim this piece behind where the hvac controller would sit?

If you look on the Dynavin N6 thread on first page this area was trimmed slightly to make it flush. I have feeling that can help you

Yes; actually you will have to trim away a good deal more than that, but nothing that would show if you want to go back to stock. That helps it fit in as far forward as it will go, but does nothing for you on the height. Basically there really isn't quite enough room in there for what we want to do. In principle, I suppose the HVAC module could be squeezed up a little further, but then there wouldn't be enough material between it and the double DIN cutout to give it strength.

Would this kit work if you have the ashtray portion underneath the HVAC controls? I am thinking about replacing the stock radio for a nice Pioneer double-DIN.

My pioneer double din works fine with the ashtray below. No interference. The bottom of the plate does stick out a bit but doesn't impact operation.

I have the heated seat buttons underneath the HVAC controls. Sounds like I will need the Metra relocation kit if I want it intact.

nv you could buy the updated (2009+) HVAC controls that have the heated seat buttons right with the main controls.

ahh...didn't know that. One less thing to buy and I wouldn't even have to remove the center console trim or shifter trim. Nice!!

thanks cdgatti. I actually found one for a bit less, also on eBay. Didn't buy it yet. I have the Logic7 (677) setup and assume replacing the factory headhunt will not be as easy as I first thought.

Can you relocate the logic 7 cd player stuff maybe? Seems like none if the android units have hd radio nor optical support which is a major drawback. You can swap in a double din and hook into factory amplifier but its limited to the audio quality of the pre amp level outputs which also sucks even though it will use the most bus. Also idrive will loose some functionality as well which sucks.

Avin sells a Logic 7 adapter. It changes a stereo analog signal into
a Most signal . How good it is I don't know.
The 300 to 400 dollar dynavin android clones are of questionable quality
and may have little support according to reviews here.

I'm not too fond of those "integrated" headunits. Had an Eonon and AudioSource in my old '12 VW GTI and had annoying issues with both. I'm not going into details about either one at this moment.

Not sure why BMW used fiber optic cable to transfer audio from the headunit to the factory trunk mounted amplifier.
