does anyone know the law when towing hgv style

set off to work today following my brother in our 7.5t lorry he was pulling a plant trailer that weighs about 750kgs unloaded, anyway he got pulled this morning and got the book chucked at him, his licence states he can drive 7.5t lorry and fully insured, his lorry was empty and so was the plant trailer but they said said they take the full weight 7.5t of lorry and 3.5t trailer so he should have a 10t or higher liicence was i really pissed, as they said i could hook it on the transit and be ok, i said fine ill do that then,then come out the book £800 fine maybe 3-6 points for my brother and due in court,just takes the piss, dont they want you to earn any money

What a joke mate, gutted for him. But the law is there for a reason. Shame
your brother got caught out. Lucky it was just a tug. Imagine the repercussions had he caused an accident like that. Would probably lose license or worse.

They have to take ULW into account unfortunately.
