Help needed on Brake Pads

Hi Everyone

It's time to change my rear brake pads. The stealers have quoted me 282 all in. 149.93 for parts and 132 for labour.

Europarts have quoted 39.89 for a set of rear Pagid pads.

Has anyone had any experience with these, are these better than the OE Pads which BMW use, I know they are ATE pads.

Can I mix OE Discs with Pajid Pads

Thanks Guys

Taj

Stick with OEM pads, try Birds, based in Iver for the work.

Cheers I totally forgot about them I live quite close to there anyway. There OE brakes were cheaper than Europarts, 205 all in which saves me 80 quid over the stealers.

Thanks

Can I ask a question on the subject of rear brake pads?

Car went to the dealers on Tuesday for the clutch judder issue, and when they called later about the fact it needs to go in later for a software update, they said my rear pads need changing as there is 4mm left on them. They quoted £251 (have found an indy to do it for £140 near by so that's not the problem)

I'm confused as my i-drive says it has around 13000 miles to go on them, and on the basis of when I got the car it said 15000 miles to go and I have since done 20000 miles I think they are not wearing all that quick anyway. Are they pulling a fast one and trying to get more cash out of me?

Yes

THE biggest revenue generator in a car dealership.
Next in line is 'Your discs are corroded.."

If your mile munching on motorways, you'll probably see over 80k on those pads.

I looked and looked on this subject, went for EBC Redstuff in the end front and rear cost me £140 all in from EBC Direct. Installation mega easy never changed brake pads so quick!! no more than 30 mins per wheel and I am relatively inexperienced at these things.

They are now worn in after a few stops at santa pod. The best bit around 75% less dust. Braking bite etc a little less but I prefer it you feel more involved somehow.

BMW advise replacement pads at 3mm. So 1mm isn't a great deal of wear. Also the CBS isn't pverly accurate and can change through programming. I dont think they are trying to rip you off, just advising you will need them soon.

As for rear disc corrosion, there's no point in putting a new set of pads onto a corroded disc, so if they are corroded, have them done.

I haven't got i drive, I replaced mine before the sensor snapped (my opinion is they are inaccurate anyway) just followed the you tube vid to reset. Don't know if this works for i drive tho.

You do it on the dash, it will relect in the iDrive display afterwards.
So the guide for the dash only reset will work for you. I have used it.

Always use a new sensor.
It may seem a waste of a few pounds, but there has been so much trouble caused by not replacing sensors (on the E60's anyway). Usually if the sensor isn't replaced, then the reset doesn't work. Some E60 users state that they will only use genuine BMW sensors as they have had problems resetting with pattern sensors.

As far as the pad wear indication goes, the iDrive counts down with its own algorhythm, but when the pad gets very low, the sensor takes over and throws up an error message. When this happens, your miles remaining on the iDrive will rapidly decrease (by as much as 4000 miles from swithing the car off to getting back in it!) to a few hundred miles, and then go negative.
A few people have had problems resetting the display from a negative figure, but sometimes the reset procedure needs to be repeated.

Mike
