Just bought rhino ramps today for 60 bucks. If you use them, in your personal opinion whats the best way to get your car ontop of them? I'm doing my oil change friday (7 degrees Celsius woohoo) and I don't want to scrape or damage the front bumper.

Ramps are dangerous. I've seen a driver high center a car on ramps one time. Play it safe, use a jack.

Edit: and jack stands.

Always have a second eye to spot you. Also place a 2x8 in front of the ramp because you will scrape the bumper. I bought the low profile rhino ramp and still needed to place the pieces of wood.

What I do is either have a spotter help or if I am alone I slowly drive up till I hit the bump and the car stops. But I am use to doing it so I don't have issues. Never really scraped my bumper going on and coming off as long as surface is level.

You can always use jack stands but defeats the point of having ramps.

Rhino ramps are very safe and very convenient.

If you are lowered i wouldnt get them, but for stock height cars ramps should be fine.

You can use welcome mats under the ramps so they don't slip. Works great.

My garage is layered with old carpet so it doesn't slip and I put wood down in front so it won't scrap. Be sure that it's centered perfectly just in case.

I used Rhino ramps when installing my vrsf fmic. The ramps kept slipping when I tried to drive the car up on to the ramps and I had a spotter. The garage surface was not ideal for it, so placing something underneath like some of the other guys said is a good idea so they won't slip. I ended up using a car Jack to place the ramps underneath. Once the car was on the ramps it gave me plenty of room to work with.

They work fine for me. I've been using them for years. As others have said, you'll need a 2 (one for each wheel) pieces of 2x8 placed in from of the ramps to avoid scraping. I do the following: a) place the 2x8s in front of the ramps touching the ramps, b) drive on the 2x8s, c) engage the emergency brake, d) get out of the car and check that the ramps are aligned with the tires, e) get in the car and drive slowly onto the rhino ramps, f) when you feel the bump stop put the car in neutral and engage the emergency brake, g) I go in the back and lift the car through the differential or the crossover beam until the car is horizontal, h) put jack stands on the rear (in case the lift fails).

The reason I make sure the car is horizontal is to avoid oil from running down the plastic cover. When the car is horizontal the oil comes out straight down. It also gives me more room to work under the car.

This works every time. I just changed the oil over the weekend.

Just pay the $100 the dealer charges to change your oil....parts are around what? $70 and a car wash inside and out is what $15-20? So you're paying the dealer sub $10 to change it out?

I mean in 7 degree weather too?

Any vehicle lifting system can be dangerous with the wrong "tool" behind the wheel, equipment, or technique.

All systems require appropriate safety measures, patience, and common sense.

I've been using Race Ramps for almost 10 years and I feel safer under them than a set of jackstands alone. Use a spotter and be gentle on the gas.

Where do you live that the dealer charges $100 for an oil change? Here it's just about 200 bucks after tax...

Where are you paying $200 for an oil change (unless you're driving an M-car)?

Fields BMW charges $79.95 for a synthetic oil change with filter. They run the specials monthly: http://www.fieldsbmworlando.com/specials/service.htm

You dont even need the coupon for them to match it or utilize that price, just mention it to your SA. If your SA isn't mentioning that to you then you're better off finding a new one.

If you go in and tell them you're here for an oil change they won't just honor that price immediately for obvious reasons.

lol rhino ramps dangerous...only if you go at them at speeds of 10mph and above. Just don't try to do a burnout going up and it will be fine.

I wish the dealers here had 80 dollar oil changes.. Everywhere here charges 100+.. Even the Indy

Jacks fail and so do jack stands on occasion. I use a jack and stands on my 335 because it's lowered and too low to get on ramps with the front bumper on. But for my other car, I use ramps most of the time. I feel more comfortable that once the car is on, there is nothing that can fail. The ramp isn't going to randomly collapse.

I'd rather high center a car than have it drop while you're under it.

Rhino ramps are fine although they have never fit under any of my lowered cars. I bought a set of race ramps for that.

In have a pair of concrete pavers that I put in front of each ramp. Works fine. Feel fine under them.

To the poster who said they are dangerous....please provide links to deaths and failures if you're sure they are dangerous. Someone high centering or driving over the edge is just a stupid careless person.

I've got a pair of steel ramps that are too high for the 335i to drive up.

So, I just used a floor jack to lift both front wheels up using the center lift point and placed the ramps under the wheels to install my Mishimoto FMIC and I'd do the same for anything other work that I need to do under there.

The ramps are extremely strong (they'll hold up my F250 w/a 2 ton camper in the bed) and much more stable than 2 jack stands would be.
